Yesterday we took a field trip to the French Alps. It was by far the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and I had one of the best days of my life there! I never truly understood why everyone was so in awe over the mountains (all of them, not just the Alps) until I got to see the sunrise come up over the tips while climbing up the side of the mountain range. It was so breath taking ...

So back to my first time skiing...ever.

I did 4 runs today before my body told me I needed to stop. My first run down the bunny slopes was kinda awful (as expected for a newcomer). On the winding road up to Roubion there has been a rockfall. The fixit guys are there with a small digger to clear the rubble. As I pull up the remaining loose rocks are cascading down the mountain, crashing onto the road and bouncing on down the steep valley side. There must be some workmen up above levering the loose stuff down.

We've left Lourmarin with some sorrow, but soon perked up when we got into the Alps. It's been a perfect day, the trees are turning Autumn colours and although it's 26 degrees there's snow on the high tops. Briancon has this amazing fort built to keep the Italians out many years ago. Tomorrow we go over the mountain to Italy toward ...
