To sum up, I must say I wouldn't recommend Chamonix as a must-see but it's a nice town to spend a few days but definitely not the best place for skiing. ...

... in a sneaky place behind some logs, as a group of day-trippers had pinched pretty much all the space in the official camping area (it was a large organised group, a man in a van took their luggage each day and set up a load of big tents for their arrival in the evening). We then went to go cook under the communal BBQ area next to the small, dank toilet block, as it continued to rain.
