Wilkommen in Deutschland

Gutten tag, Welcome back to my travel blog! This time around it's a little more business than pleasure, but I will be sure to enjoy myself on the weekends and share some photos and stories along the way. I've now been in Hamburg Germany for two weeks. I hit the ground running with the superbowl starting at 1230 am on my first night here. My first order of business after the AFC championship game was to secure a location where I could enjoy the Steelers 7th appearance as soon as I realized I'd...

Fantastic Hotel!!

from angieM
I stayed here with my Husband for a week to celebrate our first Anniversary. We had told the hotel when making the reservation that it was a special occasion and asked for a nice room as high up in the hotel as possible. We had booked a superior room with panoramic view of the lake.

When we arrived it was only 11am (check in was at 2), the hotel said they could find us a room or we could wait until the room they had put aside for us was ready. We decided to wait as they said it was on the 6th floor with very nice views.

We were very glad that we did, the room was decorated in various shades of green, as was the (splendid) bathroom. the view over the Alster lake was lovely.

A bowl of fresh fruit was left for us (this was replenished once during the week), and a bottle of champagne and a bowl of chocolates, with a lovely note from the management, congratulationg us on our wedding anniversary.

Both bars were very good, particularly the one on the 9th floor with it's panoramic views. Room service was excellent and, considering this was a five star hotel, reasonably priced.

Our room and bathroom were kept spotlessly clean and touches like the illuminated etched glass headboard made the room just that little bit more special and different.

If I was to find fault with anything, it would be the fact that internet access was very expensive - about 15 euros an hour. The only other criticism would be the lighting in the bathroom. There were 2 options, both perfectly adequate except that there was no direct lighting over the mirrors, and although there was a great magnified shaving/make up mirror, it wasn't illuminated.

Otherwise, an excellent trip, in a hotel I would gladly reccommend to anyone, and one which we would definitely consider returning to again.

The city of Hamburg itself was great and for anyone who likes a really good steak, we would reccommend one of the branches of Block House - the best steak and spare ribs we have eaten in a long time!!

Great location,lovely view!

We stayed here for 1 night and everything was brilliant.

The hotel is approx 20 mins from HAM airport and cost about 19 euros in a taxi. We were checked in very quickly and efficiently and they allocated us a room before the official check in of 2pm.

Our room was a lurid green (sounds awful-but really works!) with very comfortable beds and nice and spacious.

Yes,the mini bar is completely free no matter what rate you book. The fridge contains 2 beers,2 waters and 1 coke and 1 7up. There is also tea and coffee.

The bathroom was one of the nicest I have seen in a 5 star . There is a free standing bath and separate, large shower.Yet again in green.

When you stay at Le Meridien they also give you a free boat pass which is handy to get to the city. The pick up point was only minutes from the hotel.

The views from Le Ciel bar is great. The staff very friendly and courteous also. We enjoyed a lovely french meal in Le Ciel in the evening (approx 100 euros for 2 people) .The buffet breakfast whilst expensive (20 euros pp) was worth it.

Finally we tried out the Futuresse spa,and i can highly recommend the steam room which had lovely twinkling lights in the ceiling.

Hamburg is a fab city,we just wished we could have had longer there.

Definately give this hotel a try - we loved it!

One of the best I've stayed in

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have visited this hotel twice, in August 2004 and August 2005. On both occasions I have been really impressed with the standards at this hotel. Situated on the Alster Lake the restaurant and bar on the top floor are a must, not just for the great food (try the fish) and German beer but the great view over the lake. The rooms are spotless, the bathroom impressive - the roll top bath and walk in shower just two of the benefits. Staff were friendly and courteous on both occasions. You are 10 minutes walk from the shops and there's always the lake itself. On the basis of these visits I have now made a reservation at Meridien's hotel in Vienna and trust it will be of an equal standard. 10 out of 10.

Truly unforgettable experience

from prinz_albrecht
This is one of meridien art and tech type of hotels (Hamburg, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Turin, Vienna). Booked the trip after reading many of the reviews for this type here at tripadvisor. By checking in as a meridien moments member I was upgraded to a junior suite in 9th floor with alster view. Stayed for 3 nights with my wife and daughter in August 2005. High expectations were by far exceeded. Loved everything in this hotel. The Design of the rooms/hotel is absolutely fabulous with intriguing Art elements in all hotel spaces, creating the most inspiring hotel surrounding I have experienced with its spare sleek furniture, sculptural lightning and Asian-inspired colour combinations. Technical equipment is superb. Spa facilities (very nice indoor pool, sauna, gym) are first class. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is fantastic. All the staff from reception (perfect parking!) and concierge to room attendants and service within the restaurant was excellent - extremely friendly without ever being in-your-face. From other five star hotels we stayed in, it seems that getting this balance right is quite difficult. Courtesy is absolute priority. We felt so welcome. Were offered a cookie with our daughter´s name and a basket with fresh fruit on check-in. Location is excellent with close proximity to central station, "Jungfernstieg" and inner city centre. Lake-view on the "Außenalster" from higher-level rooms and the restaurant in the 9th floor is breathtaking and finally turned our stay into a truly unforgettable experience. Definite first choice for all those tired of heavy furnished five star locations with small rooms and either lacking or weak climate aggregates and one of the best hotels in Europe. Gets close to Adlon and George V ....

A revisit is in the works. Highly recommended ....

Excellent, prime location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in a spacious junior suite, with cool and hi-tech interior

and two flat screen televisions. We were recommended the courtyard

view and did not regret it because of its quietness. For a breathtaking

view of the Alster enjoy breakfast or dinner in the top floor restaurant.

Valet parking costs EUR 18/night and worked smoothly. Minibar is free of charge - so make the most of it during your stay. The hotel is located about 1 km from the city hall and fine shopping possibilities. The nearby Kepminski is an excellent choice for lunch. Pia & Ole Bernth.

Excellent modern hotel in good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed in. Its a little difficult to get to when driving there for the first time, but when there its great.

The rooms are modern, clean and exactly what a modern traveller looks for. The restaurant on the 9th floor has fantastic views and is worthy of a long drink as sunset approaches.

Food in the hotel is generally good, breakfast was very nice, although the orders from the menu can sometimes go astray on their way from the kitchen.

Overall a true 5* experience.

Fabulous

from zonda
5 star luxury. Modern yet not too intimidating.

Restaurant and bar have great views across the water.

Great rooms - flat screen TV and a new entrant in the top 10 showers of the world competition

Nice but ,...

Quite good, helpfull and friendly staff . Could know english better. Did not get what we ordered at all or got what we did not order !

What I did not like/understand is why smoking is allowed in the breakfast restaurant.

Still would consider going again.

Modern but comfortable

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very nice Hotel located adjacent to the water. The rooms are very modern without sacrificing function for form. Loved the bed, the big tub and the shower, and even had a chance to watch the olympics on the flat screen TV. The only question I have is why European hotels like to mount the hair dryer in the closet. Overall, the rooms are both cool and comfortable.

Although a bit expesive, the breakfast buffet is excellent. The lobby bar had a cheesy piano player (fine except when he sang) but the bar on the 9th floor has a great view.

I highly recommend this hotel, and will definately stay here next time I'm in Hamburg.

Ultra-modern, clean, very nice hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you are looking for "ambiance" or "character", this one isn't for you. But, it is a nice, clean, modern hotel not too far from the city centre.

Rooms: Medium-sized rooms. Very nice bathroom, with a *really* nice shower. The furnishings in the room are ultra-modern, including the plasma TV mounted on the wall. Very clean.

Hallways and Lobby: The hallways have a neon-like glow that has to be seen.

Location: The Royal Meridien is directly on the lake. It is about 10 minute walk to the train station, and another 10 to the main harbour (and the main shopping areas). Right around the hotel there isn't much, but the 10-20 minute walk didn't bother me too much. But if you don't enjoy walking, you might be able to find something more central.

Staff: Very nice. They remembered me by name when I came down to ask a question ~ 1 hour after checking in.

Cost: It was pretty reasonable, considering what you get.

Overall, I would happily visit this hotel again if I was to go back to Hamburg.
