... windows, the roof, there was some damage to a few of the side walls - but the cathedral itself remained standing and the damage was repaired after the war. Not all of the stained glass has been repaired - many windows are just clear glass with a little bit of pattern, but Chagall made 3 absolutely gorgeous new windows that are a real treat.

This has been a good canal to cut our teeth on. Very rural, lots of very pretty countryside, not too much traffic. ... summer - a win win situation. The lake at its peak in the winter covers up to 4,800 hectares and in the summer can shrink to 1,000 hectares. After visiting the lake we went home for some lunch - scrambled eggs of course! Then we went to a hippodrome where there was a horse competition and we were supporting the blue team. ... I could heat my 'TV dinner' and have a cup of coffee too. Beer and wine were part of the deal, which only required me to sign the visitors' book and to make a donation according to my means/conscience. What a wonderful service!

... who was to be my pilgrim host for Thursday night. Pilgrim hosts invite people to stay in their homes on a donativo basis. Meals are also provided, which saves travellers from having to fend for themselves. The quality of accommodation can vary quite considerably, although the welcome is always of the highest standard.
