South Italy-My holiday in Calabria, Tropea

... country and the people. I was impressed by the infinite hospitality of the Calabrian people.

Anyone who visit the country and its people, will take home many wonderful experiences and memories. I will definitely return to Calabria, because the country has fascinated me from the first moment and captured my heart.

Interesting information about land and people as well as charming holiday accommodations can be found on www.calabriamagica.com.

San Giorgio Morgeto

... stay in. Not only did we get a great place, but George called his brother Mike (who was back visiting San Giorgio di Morgeto) who with his niece ended up picking us up from the train station, driving us to our hotel to leave our bags, drove us up the mountain to San Giorgio, and showed us around town! Oh and they picked us up at our hotel the next day and drove us back to the train station! Amazing people. It was only fitting after our ...

The Deep South (of Italy)

... fascinating, as they were trying to upstage the French court, but for me it's all too monumentalist and egotistical. Our next night is at the grooviest youth hostel (called Seven Hostel) in which I've ever stayed, in Sorrento, on the southern edge of the bay of Naples. It's like a designer boutique hotel, and it has this great terrace with circular couches with umbrellas over them, for sleeping during the day (or night I guess) - would love to have done it but ...

Tropea - I had no idea!

... times. Of course we were curious to see this place as it was all very matter of fact. So up we went, and found a beautiful site overlooking the country and sea with an open air church and two fenced in squares stating the exact dates when Jesus appeared there. Very unusual and for me very strange and rather funny - I can't imagine ever seeing a sign like that in Australia that's for sure!

The Italian language

... Italian or wish to learn Italian. The Italian language reflects what Italy is today: a country greatly changed and still transforming, a country that is not what is used to be nor as picturesque stereotypes would have it; a country with positive sides and contradictions too that just keeps on charming tourists from all over the world!

The Hunt for the La Praia Hotel

... to drive the length of the boot, hop on the ferry and then drive to the B & B in Sicily. A good plan and before leaving the B & B in Sorrento, she had located a hotel in Tropea for us to spend the night. We made good time on the A3 and at Lagonegro, we exited the A3 and jumped on the SS18 towards Pizzo. The SS18 was a recommendation from our B & B host as it is a coastal road and has good views of the ...

With the family in CALABRIA! Sant'Onofrio & more

... came and told us in very fast Italian to go "that way and up". Well, we went that way and were bracing ourselves for a big walk because from what we could see, the town was on the top of the hill, when around the corner we were met with a cable car! Yay, so we got that and voila! In the middle of Catanzaro. Joey was happy as hes always wanted to come here. Its a town roughly the same size of Geelong or Invercargill and has a couple of main streets with shops and cafes. This is our first ...

Mud Baths of Isola Vulcano

This entry is about the wonderful time we had at the mud baths on the Aeolian Island, Vulcano. The "baths" are not so much a system of baths as a pit of goop. It is a mildly famous pit of goop though, with a reputation to: a. smell terrible b. destroy the clothes you wear not just into the baths, but anything else you wear that day by leaving an irremovable stench c. cure skin ailments d. cure gyneological problems ...
