... is crowned with the pinnacle of the abbey, complete with gold statue of St Michael. The town winds itself around the mount, old houses - many of them now either tourist shops or cafés, restaurants and hotels. Took us an hour or so to wander through the street, and city wall to arrive at the queue to enter the abbey, but having come this far ...

... we drove over to an area on the coast that has great scenery. We stopped at an old lighthouse and then an old castle. The castle was started in 937 AD. It went through some changes, fire, war. The castle we were looking at was finished in 1793. By then, it was called Fort LA Latte.
We then decided that we needed some lunch. Most places in the little villages close at 2:00PM and don't ...

Once again…early rise! Hey…I need my beauty sleep…trust me!! Stayed Bayeaux, woke up to full on French breakfast of croissants, apricot tart (Yulias favourite), crepes and bacon & eggs. We were picked up by a lady named Sunny for our 3hr toe of the D-Day beaches and memorials. The tour took us to places such as the remnants of the British portable harbour, the US cemetery, Omaha beach and some bunkers with actual guns still in place! After our tour we drove to Mont Saint Michel. Here we checked into ...

... out and the beach was being used by the time we went in and had a group dinner and emerged some 2 hours later the tide had come in and completely swallowed this immense beach- The tides are really something here! The town has a long medieval wall around part of it which we walked on and lots of little streets full of shops and on this day market stalls as well.
It is a really lovely spot.

Tomorrow we drive through the Loire valley.
