Cycling in Switzerland is fantastic. Almost everywhere you
go there are cycle paths and the way that other road users respect you is
nothing short of amazing, especially for us coming from South Africa. The paths
are well sign posted which certainly helps in areas where you can easily get
    lost.

Since we arrived in Trieste in July we have had barely two consecutive days without rain, often of biblical proportions. In pelting rain on a flooded campsite we review our travel plans this morning, abandon all thoughts of northern Germany and Holland and head south west into France. She decided to reduce the 25 euro charge by the amount of my hotel cancellation fee, and so the matter was finally decided. Laurence, for that is her name, pointed me to a yellow arrow by the roadside and said she'd see me later in the day when I arrived in the village of Montgesoye. I did win one minor battle for my ...

    Anchoring in Besançon

    ... one!

So do visit Besançon if you get a chance. It's a lively, stimulating, historic town in a beautiful setting. Great restaurants, cafés and shopping - all the stores are having their big clothing sales right now (good thing I am so limited in what I can add to my load) - and not expensive. It did thunder and pour with rain while we were there and Besançon proved to be a great anchorage for us.
