... having a hot shower and doing the mandatory washing we headed off to explore MONTBELIARD. Once again the centre of town is a mall, and the only vehicles allowed down it are bicycles. However we've had enough of the bikes for today, so we have set off on foot. Well we explored MONTBELIARD, and it didn't really take very long; nice parks, nice shopping area, an old chateau, and some nice boats moored at the ...

They must have been there a while as they didn't seem to recognise us or our accents. They looked sad, and I felt sorry for them, caged up like that, so far from home. ... s too late to leave tonight; we will enjoy a home cooked meal on board, use the Locaboat shower (we will have to be sparing with our water use in our compact ensuites) and soak up the ambience on top! It turns out we have quite a lot of wine, so we get started on it: a C******nay, and then my rosé, with the pork medallions and baked potatoes and baked eggplant and capsicum. Petits fours and coffee to finish. ...

... a project that took over 30 years.

The citadel is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walls built in that era surround the city. Numerous forts, some of which date back to the time and that incorporate Vauban's designs elements, sit on the other six hills that surround the city. La Citadelle with its walls and ramparts was high our left as we came along the river and on our right on the other bank was a ...
