    ... We wander around checking out all the menus and quickly conclude we should be here without the boys. Between the wine bars and craft beer places, a return visit may be on the cards. We eventually find a restaurant which suits and it's delicious.     This morning we all had a big sleep in until 8am (shock & awe)!! It was about 10am when we drove out over the eastern hills to Stresa, on the western edge of Lake Maggiore. Again we boldly followed our car's satnav (who I call Doris because of her accent) but this time she led to the centre of town through a walled lane that gave us 1-2 cm clearance either side of the car.     ... fail - and then was called by Julia (who changed her mind as it was too cold and didn't end up doing to rafting) who said the group was leaving! OOPS! I quickly grabbed to top half of my wetsuit and ran outside. I threw it on. Davide came over wearing his suit and also a life vest and helmet. I went and took a helmet while he grabbed me a vest. We then got into a van (with wet seats - so gross when I sat in it! YUCK) that took us to the river! :)

    We drove to Bellagio and then took the ferry to Varrena with the intention of eating lunch then travelling on to Piona to see an abbey. Just opposite the parking station was the Villa Monastera which has a beautiful botanic garden. We decided to look around the garden. They were lovely with an amazing array of plants from all over the world and the unexpected bonus was that the Villa was open for viewing.
