... of interest,.. with a visit to the Ponte Vecchio and it's myriads of 'bling' shops to finish the day. I have to complement both of the Ladies,.. they were very strong and didn't break out the credit cards at all. Another casual meal at the La****ns hotel on Monday night and we both planned our departure from Firenze for Tuesday morning. Brian & Jenette headed for Portofino, while Coll and I set the GPS for Rapallo,.. it is now time for us to start our journey back ...

Today we went up and over the Col d'Izoard (2361m). The guidebook implies it is an easy day as it it's just 9.4km at 4.2% followed by 10.1km at 7.5%. But it was anything but. It's been a wet start and finish to our first wedding anniversary today. Best intentions for an early start we're delayed by heavy rain this morning, but we made the first 50km before lunch in great time and had a big lunch outside the supermarket in Saint Michel de Maurienne. We then climbed Col du Telegraphe and the rain started again just as we arrived into camp in Valoire. Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...

... location from yesterday. Having scaled 36km in only 7 hours the other day, I'm sure we were almost as fast... The rain came and went as we gradually climbed up Col de L'Izoard. We enjoyed the occasional short downhill section, which broke up the climbing. While climbing through the forest, we were joined by a large number of hitch-hikers. I think there were about 20 or 30 at a time, all sitting on our handlebars and weighing us down for about 5km of the climb! These hitch hikers ...
