“So Ghana. Wow. That happened, and god, despite all the little things, I am so glad it did. I have learnt so much. Its clichéd, but yes, I do have a new appreciation for what I have, not just possessions, but so many opportunities, so much choice, so many people I could be. I've learnt that I'm more resilient than I thought. I can cope. Even ...

We knew what the queue would be like, so we headed up the Royal Mile very early, however, the crowds were horrendous and we were stuck in a traffic jam of people for a while. Once the crowd got moving, the tattoo staff were very good and seemed to keep the crowd moving and into the stadium very quickly. The breeze was picking up and it started to ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Le Monde Edinburgh
Around the world in a day!
My husband and I stayed at Le Monde for our 1st wedding anniversary on 15th October. As it was a quiet sunday night we were ugraded from the world class room we had booked to the Tokyo suite and were very impressed! The room was huge with lots of attention paid to detail. There was a flat screen tv in the seating area and one above the bed, accompanied by dvd's such as memoirs of a geisha and lost in translation. The huge sunken bath was great to relax in after a days shopping and another tv was situated in the bathroom. The Tassimo coffee machine is also a nice touch.
We dined in Paris and had a really nice meal - I would recommend the marinated strawberries for dessert, they were delicious! Our waitress was fantastic and gave us plenty of useful advice for our stay in Edinburgh.
After dinner it was off to club Shanghai, I know it was a sunday night but the club was empty - there were only about 10 other people there. This is possibly due to the very high price of the drink!! Very nice looking club though and the music was very good, or so we thought...
We returned to our room in the early hours to find our bed had been turned down with little wrapped chocolates left for us and relaxing chillout music playing in the backroom. Nice & romantic until we turned off the cd. This is my 1 & only complaint about the hotel - We were on the 2nd floor and could hear the beat of the music from the club vibrating up through the floor which goes on until 3am every morning.
All in all Le Monde is a really nice boutique style hotel and it is evident that a lot of money has been spent in ensuring even the smallest details are correct. Staff are very professional but really friendly right through from check-in & consierge to the waiting & bar staff.
We will definately return here!
City Chic with romance and style and lots of fun
I booked this hotel for my husband's 40th birthday weekend and it was one of the bext weekends away we've had. The hotel is situated in the smart George Street area of the city with all the shops and attractions within a short walk or bus ride away.
Marrakesh Suite: We stayed the 1st night in Marrakesh, a stunning suite on the 3rd floor. The bathroom featured a freestanding bath with flat screen tv for which there was a waterproof remote control (and the obligatory rubber duck)! There was also a fantastic shower.Bathroom products were from Molton Brown and were excellent.
The bedroom/suite had a stunning Queen Size bed with the best mattress and pillows I've slept on in a hotel. The room was decorated in warm Morrocan colours with a beautiful carved coffee table, sofa and chair. In addition there was a plinth mounted round table with small seating at which you could take breakfast. Plasma TV and DVD player with a selection of themed DVD's including Casablanca and on entering the room, we were greeted by Moroccan music. Turndown included chocolates and the weather forecast for Edinburgh and Marrakesh the next day - a nice touch! Not the best view by any means but we asked for a room away from the main street so we didn't hear the club revellers leaving at 3am in the morning.
Atlantis: Our 2nd night was spent in Atlantis which again was stunning. The tropical fish tank was above the bed and in the dividing wall between the bathroom and bedroom. Again, a wonderfully comfy bed with a window seating area in cream leather. Plasma TV and DVD again and this time, the DVDs were water themed e.g The Abyss. Water music was in the CD player upon arrival.
Both rooms had Bravissimo coffee machines, complimentary waters, well-stocked bar and full ice-bucket upon arrival. Also robes and slippers were provided in both rooms. Proper hairdryers and loads of wardrobe and drawer space.
We took breakfast in the hotel and it was excellent. Choice of Full Le Monde which included Haggis, haddock, continental or smoked salmon, scrambled egg and caviar.
Now to the entertainment: I wa sslightly worried about the noise aspect but it was not an issue. Saturday night, the bars were packed to the brim, but you entered via a private hotel door with a security key and we were served quickly and enjoyed a drink (or several). Great atmosphere and wonderful not to be tainted by the smell of smoke as Scotland has a smoke-free policy in public areas. We didn't visit the nightclub but saw the crowds when we returned from our evening out
All in all, this is an excellent hotel with great staff and is in a wonderful location. Not for those seeking a truly quiet weekend away but it was possible to find peace and quiet in the rooms we booked. If the noise worries you, ask for a room away from the hustle and bustle of the main street.
In a word "STUNNING"
Out of this world!!
my husband and i stayed here on thursday 14th september - it was a surprise for our 1st wedding anniversary from some of our family. we stayed in the atlantis suite and I have to say that it was absoultely fantastic!! The room was out of this world and even all the little touches were great aswell, even the tiles in the bathroom are heated!! the bed was huge and very comfortable. the bath was also huge!! the decoration was outstanding especially the fish tank between the bedroom and bathroom!! we had a meal at night in the paris restaurant and it was excellent. we also had a few drinks at the other bars and it was a great atmosphere. when we had returned to our room the bed had been remade and the room sorted which was nice. breakfast was also great in the morning. Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful not how i would have imagined them to be at such an upmarket hotel. the hotel was fantastic and i am hoping to return for my next wedding anniversary!!
Thoroughly enjoyed
Stayed in Le Monde for one night in early August. Got a cheap last minute deal (only £125 b&b). The hotel reception staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was themed on Beijing with a big dragon mural on one wall, was great (not huge) but was very nicely furnished with an extremely comfy bed and the most fantastic bathroom. Nice touches included complimentary magazines, bottled water, mood lighting, dvd libraby on offer and the rubber duck in the bath. Were not disturbed at all by the club or restaurant, the room location was very quiet. The breakfast was an event in itself, wide enough selection of food available and all freshly cooked, the waitress was also fantastic with her service. Overall a great night, and would definitely stay again.
Tolles Hotel in Edinburgh
Fantastic Stay
Me and my husband stayed in Le Monde for our 1 year anniversary and couldn't have asked for anything more. On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful reception staff and were shown up to the romantic Cairo suite where there was a bottle of champgne and a box of chocolates waiting for us with a card from the Le Monde staff wishing us a happy anniversary and a very pleasant stay.
We booked a table for dinner in the Paris bar and the food and drinks were excellent.
After dinner we found our room set for the evening with the curtains closed, mood lighting and music set and rose petals scattered on bed. It was lovely.
Stunning hotel, great location, would highly reccomend!
Great stay in Edinburgh
Had a fantastic stay at the Le Monde Hotel on George Street. This hotel had been recommended to us and it certainly did not disappoint. Our room was fantastic (themed on the city of Atlantis) with an amazing fishtank above the bed and luxury bathroom.
We loved being able to pop down to the cool bars in Le Monde - great weekend atmosphere! The location was a huge plus as we were within walking distance to many sightseeing attractions and Princes Street and Harvey Nichols were just around the corner.
A very enjoybale stay at a fantastic new hotel! Would highly recommend.
Would cost less to fly to NYC for the night.
We were handed our room key, Guess what it had not even been cleaned!
Also lot of noise till the bar closed
Top it off with the chef not turning up for breakfast.
Never again.
Expensive and over rated
Amazing decor - but why is there the need for TV screens all over the place. The prices are extremely high - maybe the sort of place to go for one drink, then move on somewhere cheaper.
