52 Saad Zaghloul St., Raml Station Alexandria, Egypt, 2034-821467

... together. The temple is dedicated to Serapis whom is an old man to worship for Romans and the form of an Ox for egyptians to worship. It reallly just is a big pillar, the statue that sat on top was sitting in the courtyard of the catacombs, they took it down as it was going to fall.
We then explore the main Roman road, which was found several meters under the modern day road. There was also an ampitheatre discovered which was ...

There are 3 bodies of water namely Lake Manzilah, Lake Timsah and the Bitter Lakes which are used as passing bays because the canal is only wide enough for a single lane of traffic. Every minute of the trip was interesting and we sat watching the built up side with several cities (some small and some large ...

In the port compound the souvenir bazaars were much more pleasant, where most of our group did their shopping. Beside Khufu's pyramid were three smaller pyramids one each for his mother, wife and daughter. There was also a small museum housing a restored funerary boat which would have once sailed on the Nile. We then went to a viewing point from where we could see all three pyramids together. We ...
Alexandria, Egypt susanelBit of an early start today - up at 6 and I've never seen the streets of Cairo so quiet. Grabbed and haggled for a taxi which was quite possibly the smallest car I've ever been in. I'm not a tall person and I had to stoop my neck so it didn't touch the roof. Still, at least this taxi didn't reek of petrol to the point of making me almost pass out, like the one I went in last night did.
Got to the station far too early but I managed to get a seat on a ...

On the way to Montazah palace, the new taxi driver acknowledged his slow driving skill to assure us of safety. It turned out to be a good fit as we could watch the conic he leisurely as he drove the yellow Lada (all taxis are Lada) on the fast lane slowly under constant horns from passing drivers. Montazah, as ...

However, Alexandria is often referred to as the greatest historical city with the least to show. Over the centuries numerous earthquakes destroyed many of the ancient buildings of the city and those that remained had their materials used in the construction of other buildings. Nowadays Alexandria is said to be Egypt's most cosmopolitan city, and there have been recent efforts by the government to put the city ...
... those in neighbouring countries (albeit relatively untouched). But it was the people of Sudan who made it such a smashing place. The hospitality and generosity offered to us was greater than any other country we have been to this year (or any year). And after 7 months 'on the road' this was much appreciated. The journey from Khartoum to the border was long and dusty. It was around 30 hours of bus journeys split into 4 legs. We stopped at the ...
