Cairo - I can best summarize it as a very interesting city that is loaded with hassles. The city is very large very polluted, and very densely packed. It reminded me of an Arab New York City with its seemingly endless streets filled with mid-rise apartments. The taxis of Cairo have a reputation for wild rides and they didn't disappoint. I never felt that I was in any danger while in the taxi, but I would have bet good money we were going to hit pedestrians, only to have them literally leap ou...
Caire, Egypt egypte.cd-plArrived Cairo in the afternoon, my friend met me at the airport and from there moving in slowly in the heat and the traffic to our hotel, Le Meridien, just nearby and with view towards the pyramids. I just love to take in the pulse of what each country, each city pulsate and pulls you right into if you allow it to. The breeze and the different kinds of smells each different place is something completly exciting to me, coming alive. If you are so lucky to be having a travel companion, a person...
Cairo, Egypt eilenWe are now back safe and sound from a brilliant trip to Egypt. We went on a 6 day tour and visited busy, busy, busy Cairo, and of course visited all the Pyramids, as well as Tutankamun's treasures in the Egyptian Museum. Went shopping in the hectic markets, and had a great time bargaining. We are getting better and better at it as time goes on!!! We expected to travel through miles of desert before we reached the Pyramids but were surprised to find them right in the heart of the city. Not wha...
Cairo, Egypt johnandcandiceAndrew, Amy, Doug and Sarah go to Egypt... Arrived in Cairo via Zurich on Swiss Air about 12pm. Getting a visa was interesting. There were people milling about everywhere and there were no signs. We eventually worked out we had to go to one of the numerous travel agencies that were dotted around the security area. They gave us 2 stamps- as in postage type stamps- as our visa for about £15. So we headed out to arrivals where many would-be taxi drivers tried to persuade us into their cabs. One ...
Cairo, Egypt sarahanddougToday was a great day in Cairo, starting off with my usual free hostel breakfast of 4 sticks of bread, a hard-boiled egg, and and a cup of tea. Amazingly the breakfast hasn't gotten old, but I have been jones'n for a good cup of joe. The weather has been fantastic here, usually in the upper 80's almost no humidity (it's a dry heat). I was expecting the worst in Cairo - 100 degree heat riding a camel across the desert.....but it really has been comfortable. We decided to scrap some of the tour...
