Plan was to stay in Avignon but when we arrived we decided it was too big for us and after driving around the outide of the ramparts of the old city walls - very cool and the main thing we wanted to see - we made our way onwards to Fontaine de Vaucluse which is 20kms past Avignon. We arrived just before dark and found an Aire de Service at the edge of town where settled in for 2 days. The town ...
Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France darrenhough74... made some friends had we the time and resources to put together costumes... I decided we were dressed up as Canadians, which I thought would have worked great until Tom pointed out that Canadians would probably speak more French. But we weren't really left out, there were only a handful of people dressed up. Overall; here is the tally of costumes in Aix on halloween: 2 girls in witch hats (with one stocking each), 5 ...

The woman talked about the large mountains we would encounter and how the weather was supposed to be bad for the next week.

When discussing our trip, she said it was ‘beau’. Asked if we had a map - no, transaltion book - no, telephone - no. I said ‘je suis fou?’. But she confirmed, no ‘beau’, but offered us a place to stay at their home. As she started ...

Arles, Provence, France 2totango... full of huge luxury yachts. No sign of Jonny Wilkinson though...maybe next weekend! The mountain area was also very pretty, definitely motorbike/cycling country (Dad, you'd love it, Eileen, the bends and drops are scary!), but although pretty, I still find the landscape up there quite arid and hostile...wouldn't feel quite as comfortable peeing in a bush up there as I would in a gorse bush on Exmoor (don't look like that, needs must)!

And now a little bit about ...

Avignon, Provence, France qyzhang... and well organized. The two bedroom bungalow we visited was showing its age but was clean and well kept. The hotel type room had a beautiful view of the water and even had a kitchenette arrangement. The surroundings were very pleasant, made more so by the cloudless blue sky and bright Provençal sunshine. The restaurant was very inviting. They serve meals buffet style rather than family style as is most often the case, and the choices presented looked to be of ...
Salon-de-Provence, Provence, France joelmeeker... elderly, linked hands in many circles, began to sing "Pont de Avignon" and danced in circles. They blocked the exit. I threw my hands in the air, gave up and tried to take a pic- and my batteries fell out of my camera. So it goes. When they were done, I ran through the entire walled city of Avignon (in sandals) out into the new area, to the bus station- to see my bus pulling away. Miracle of miracles, it stopped! Apparantly Pam and Everil were watching for me and ...
