Day 6: Marseille
Well this city surprised the hell out of us! We didn't really know what to expect when we set off this morning; it was cold and windy, and we wanted to take a boat over to the famed Chateau d'If. Despite the cloudless blue sky, there was a sign at the port saying there would be no landings at Chateau d'If due to poor weather, but they were still running ferries to an island called Frioul (turns out there were extremely high winds and big waves). The Winds of Toulon
... it docks in the town of La Seyne sur Mer which is across the harbor from Toulon. So, in order to get into town, we had the option of taking a cab which would take about 45 minutes, taking a ferry boat organized by Celebrity for $15.00 roundtrip, or take the public ferry from La Seyne into Toulon for approximately $3.00 each way. We opted for the later.

We missed the summer lavender fields. If you really dig modern painting, Aix-en-Provence may hold some charm. Not a bad town, just nothing really spectacular.
