The bulk of our trip we spent with my in-laws in Jeddah -- 3+ weeks. We started by trying to get as much shopping done as possible, saving short day trips for later. Jeddah as a city has become so crowded over the years, traffic is terrible. However finally the government appears to be doing something about it by building a series of flyovers and bridges to try and lessen the strain on the busiest streets. This won't help that actual terrible ...
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia filfilfilfilksqArrived at last on UK don't care if its freezing cold, if its snowing, if there are gales, even 5ft of snow I don't care.......I'm just happy that I am safe...didn't really want to say how much I was frightened the last few days and didn't want people to worry but the tears of relief when that plane took off I have never felt before ...

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia gill_prior... I am not a Prince or Princess I am just a worker and employed to do a job. It amazing how these people live as the maids they have sleep in rooms outside the main Palace, but within the palace walls but there is like 3/4 to a room in bunk beds. I am going to make it work as I am looking forward to the future at getting my mortgage paid off and also having the money to do some more traveling that I love doing, think I will do the 2 years like I had said to myself ...
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia gill_prior... lol) and of course my all time favorite for the flavor of old Yemen, Souk Al Yeman, and Souk al Yumama - for gold... Had some terrific meals, and met with many friends, and can only note that the ongoing urban development, the quality of the new construction and the concerted effort at creating a solid IT infrastructure for all residents of Jeddah is commendable. The new buildings are the dream of great architects, a must see.

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia claire.sharp... One rarely saw a woman, and when seen, she was either 10 paces behind her husband swathed from head to foot in layers of black cloth replete with double veil and gloves in the desert heat, or in the company of female friends lounging in a restaurant, similarly enveloped in cloth except that they had perhaps lifted the veil so that the eyes were visible. Eating was done by putting the food into the mouth discreetly behind the face-covering veil. I wasn't in ...
