After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74... and not campervan parking friendly. We found a picture perfect stop just after Monte Carlo at the top of a hill overlooking the Med. We had the place to ourselves so we russelled up some brekkie in the sun which was lovely, so much so we were in t-shirts!!!
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74Gorgeous morning and a stunning place for breakfast awaited us just outside Scooby overlooking the lake. I went for a run but Kim was feeling a little under the weather so she stayed and made me breakfast - yay! We spotted two girls about our age and attempted to engage in some conversation but their English was limited and French is rubbish. Shame as its manily been the grey hair brigade we ...
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74Cannes is not as glamrous as we thought it would be, it still has all the fancy smancy stores along the beach, but there were definitely no red carpets rolled out when we were there. We did a day trip to St-Tropez, its was the end of a hge sailing competitiona and tons of ...
Cannes, Provence, France sofenjon... first day in Nice was spent on the beach, we couldn't wait to go into the ocean, that we went swimming without towels. Wasn't a good idea since Nice is all rock beaches and we couldn't really sit to dry off... WE had a delicous pasta dinner at Pasta Basta and ordered the finest wine on ...
Nice, Provence, France sofenjon... of millionaires and billionaires.

The tour of the Royal Palace, where Prince Albert currently resides, offered an interesting and historical view of the life of the Grimaldi family. Later, we enjoyed some leisure time walking around the Palace Square, through the lanes and streets of Monaco-Ville. At 3pm sharp, we watched the Changing of the Guard in front of the Royal Palace.

Back at the ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco ricknelsie... that we were taking in Haut-de-Cagnes on the way to the sea; that is, the bourg - the old medieval part of the town, perched high up around the castle. Thus we knew we were in for a bit of an ascent at least.

As we took the right turn off the road into town that led sharply up towards the bourg, we were reminded by a merry sign that the Tour de France was in town this very day. This didn't in itself massively interest us, but we thought that ...
Cagnes-sur-Mer, Provence, France saracengillAfter picking up our son Lucas at the airport (he arrived after touring Rome, Florence, Paris and Amsterdam with his college class) we did a repeat of our day at the Nice public market and the hilltop park above the city. We are starting to take on the Mediterranean custom of a siesta or just resting after lunch, so in mid-afternoon we re ...
Cagnes-sur-Mer, Provence, France denisandlynnae... got an very impressive display of Fireworks over the Port for her Birthday. The highlight of the day was picking up a six pack of Leffe Brun (Belgian Beer - like the stuff they have on Rundle St) for 4 Euro. These creative words are the result. The women in Cannes and Nice seem to enjoy the double cancer combo of Sun and Ciggies. And I know why they call it Cannes as well. They've got 'em out everywhere. I think Mel is getting sick of me pointing them out to her.
Monte Carlo, Monaco mksymes... the first opportunity to present itself. Big mistake. We went to bed in a truck parking bay right at the side of the motorway. It was noisy all night and occasionally a works vehicle pulled in with its many yellow flashing lights which gave a strobing effect inside the camper. The fumes of the cars and trucks was enough to give Des and I a headache so when we got up at 7am we felt like we had been driving all night.
