... Following our leisurely jaunt around pigeon island we noticed that we had developed a problem. Our main hallyard (the rope that pulls up the main sail and keeps it up) sheath was beginning to fray. The core of the rope appeared well, but with a lot more sailing to be completed to get to New Zealand it would need to be fixed. Fortunately as with most boats we had more than one sail. ... This effectively stranded us on the island with not much to do except walk through the quite coastal town and walk up to the botanical gardens to peer through the fence as they were greedy with their pricing. Time on the boat, easy with no sailing and a perfect nights sleep.

We did make it to the rain forest in the middle of the island in the end and getting there was half the adventure. Waiting at the bus ...

Daddy enjoyed his morning stroll to the local boulangerie (bakery) where he selected only the finest croissants, pain au chocolat and baguette for our day. He learnt that you had to go early as only so many were made. I loved my daily croissant with a sprinkling of sand, well actually, Mum and Dad think I ate quite a lot of sand over our few days here, but I didn’t seem to mind. ...
