Weather glorious again so took the funicular up to Mercury's Vista. Quite a ride and the view was spectacular. We could see about 15 villages in the valley below from the Mercury Tower. There were also huge samples of the variety of rocks found at Baden Baden, and they dated from 142 million to 750 million years old. After our return trip on the funicular we caught a little open tourist train and learnt some more ...

Reluctantly left Gengenbach today and drove firstly to Freudenstadt where we had a coffee, then took the B500 to Baden-Baden. This is reputedly one of the prettiest drives in Germany and it was fantastic because we crossed one of the many mountain ranges of the Black Forest. Spectacular views over beautiful valleys. As soon as we arrived ...

After breakfast in Colmar we set out for the Montagne des Singes, or monkey mountain. R wanted to interact with the residents. It was only about 30mins drive, into the Vosges Mountains just to the west. There are 200 Barbary macaques all roaming free, and you get to walk around with a handful of popcorn feeding them. It actually was fun. Just don't put the popcorn in your pocket. Monkeys have sharp claws and emasculation can result, ...

... pot on a stove on a roiling boil, but not quite as hot. There were handles on the sides to try and keep from getting flung into another bather.

Two hours passed quickly and we headed to meet Shelly and Bill at the agreed upon meeting spot and then off for some Black Forest cake!

Then we headed off to the parking garage to pick up the car and head for Speyer. I have to say that the trip back to Speyer was ...

Weather glorious again - perfect for sightseeing. Made our way to Triberg to see the highest waterfall in Germany. The walk was beautiful (and quite a strenuous uphill climb in parts) but with lots of tourists, strange about that!! We had a quick look at the town, including a shop with 1,000 cuckoo clocks. We weren't tempted to buy one, ...
