This morning we did the Rick Steves walking tour of Colmar. It is such a charming place. There is a fantastic and huge market place with fresh meats, fish, cheeses, sweets, and other "produits de Alsace". We enjoyed it. Then we decided to take the car to a couple more nearby villages, Eguisheim and Turckheim. Eguisheim was recently voted one of "the most beautiful villages in France". It was certainly charming! ... a ravioli stuffed with cheese and autumn mushrooms. They then brought a trolley of about 20 different cheeses, which we both love!!! I selected three different, and Eldon selected three different than I chose. They served the cheese with either nut bread or fruit bread. Still cool, but with sunny intervals. Decided to stay an
extra night here, to explore the local area.
Spent the morning housekeeping. Afternoon ride into
nearby, lakeside town of Gérardmer. Very pleasant forested, countryside around
here, with pretty chalet type houses. Lots of walks and cycle rides, with
skiing in the winter ...
