Today we said goodbye to Werry (yes that's Gerry with a W) our bus driver for a couple of days as by law he has to have 45hrs away from the bus and met Bertram our new driver for a couple of days. We had a day in Canterbury......home to Kent County Cricket and the famous Canterbury Cathedral where Archbishop Thomas Becket was beheaded in 1170 by four knights responding to the urgings of King Henry ll. We are quite away from the coast but still near Calais, so, a reasonable option either just before catching the ferry, or, just after getting off ...

The weather has not improved this morning, still the same howling gale and bursts of pouring rain.

After I get soaked to skin, in one such downpour, returning from a trip to the loo, Kathleen decides that, although this is HWD she is not going to risk a soaking, so, it is officially postponed.

I do my outside chores, ie disconnect mains etc, in a lull in ...

... Unfortunately the Caribou monument and the viewing platform on it were closed for renovation which was disappointing. However, it was amazing to see the extent of the trenches, conscious of the fact that the trenches aren't as deep as they would have been and there are trees there now and grass. We went on the self-guided walk provided in the visitor's centre. It was amazing to see how close the trenches were to the opposition's ones as well as the number ...
