Chambéry is at a crossroads of four alpine valleys, hence trains go North, South, East and West from here, and it is surrounded by mountains. We stayed in a Mecure hotel right opposite the railway and bus station, and surprisingly we had excellent sleeps because of the hotel's very good soundproofing. The hotel also had beautiful breakfasts, with cakes, croissants of every description, bacon and eggs, fruit.... We played with our iPads during breakfast, so that we could stay at ...

... to the point where we didn't even need a jumper.
Driving a LHD manual was easier than I thought, even though the GPS kept leading us into strange locations - which made the day all the more fun. At one point, it led us up some very narrow road to the top of the mountain. Half way up, it told us to turn around, but that was impossible on that road. Made it to the top, ...

Our day started with a stop (I had to say that) in the town of Isle sur La Sorgue which means Island on the Sorgue. The river runs through the town and there is a small island in the middle which is linked by a series of bridges. It's not an especially attractive town in terms of the architecture but every Sunday there is a market. There are fruit and vegetable stalls, others selling marzipan and cheeses and leather belts and Provençal products such as ...

    Chillon Castle & Into France

... vegetables with a light cream sauce over it that was to die for. I sopped up the left over sauce with the bread. Eldon's perch was very good and also on a bed of slivered mixed and steamed vegetables. I ordered fries with my dinner. The meal of so good. It feels really good to be back in France. Eldon got us a 500 ml. bottle of the house red. We are never disappointed with the house wines in France. I also had a lovely glass of white wine before our ...
