We left Sauvignone soon after 09:00 and took the autostrade to Turin and then onwards to Briancon. We stopped at Momtgenevre where relatively fresh snow had been swept for the road into piles on the car park. This was hard to believe as it was actually 20c with brilliant sunshine when we were there! The views of the Alps with snow covered tops, ...

We checked out of Hotel. As the museum was closed yesterday we visited this morning. Musee Dauphinois has a Chapel which was used Visitation Sisters who had a significant influence on John Baptist De La Salle - but for them he may have not continued his ministry. The museum also gives a history of Grenoble - the ski fields and the Winter Olympics. 3 sister orders started in Grenoble - Visitation, Sacred Heart and Ursulines - all at different ...

... this didn't happen, as strong NE winds set in and stayed for days, so instead we went for beach walks, cycle rides and basically chilled. The sun was out and we were able to still wear shorts but the strong winds didn't shift for days. The winds finally eased so we left and set off for Les Sables, when ...

... After a hairy ride down the mountain by Vincent, we took alook around the farm and said hi to Melanie's brother who was milking in the four a side fifty year old shed.(about to be replaced).
Milking 60 cows a day seemed so differnent compared to NZ approx herd size of 200 to 400 with some reaching a 1000. (perhaps why our rivers are polluted). We even tried some real milk from the cow. Thanks, Melanie, Vincent, Marc & David for a delightful day.

    Rhone Myths

The rumour that there is a signposted cycle route along the Rhone is a myth. Getting anywhere near the Rhone is very difficult and I took a lot more hills than expected. After faffing around in Geneva until 12:00, I have only covered 72K today, elevation 850M. Very hot day on the road, not much shade. So I am in for a long hard slog tomorrow. I have a map which claims to follow the Rhone, so I will see where that get me. Off to bed now- early to ...
