Well this is where we ended up after legging it from Saint Nicolas the terrible town! We park up in the local Carpark in town as the Aire was predictably full at 9pm. We get our heads down and put the TV on and watch Terminator 2 with sub titles like you do! We are still laughing at ourselves and the great escape! We leave in the morning very early to go to another Aire so we can enjoy our last full day in ...

We went there cause we wanted to go to the some camping called Les Hirondelles (18€) which we discovered last year. It is nice, quiet and out of our book of small campings. Philippe drove us up to the Vosges, about an hour outside of Epinal, where the tree covered mountain ranges reminded us of the BC coast! Philippe packed a beautiful picnic lunch - baguette sandwiches, brioche, apples, plums and chocolate! - so we stopped at a viewpoint to enjoy food and the scenery.

We hiked through alpine meadows and the ...

... himself. Going down in a lock is so easy we do not really need any lines on; if we were still going up she would not have left him by himself.

At 3.10 John stopped by a derelict factory which is advertised as a picnic site. It has 2 benches and 4 trees (but at least no silos) so he could have a rest and check out the manual swing bridge in front of us.

At 4pm after a little engine trouble (the stop button was not completely ...
