We drove to a couple more Bastide towns today. The first was Montflanquin, which is a fairly small place, but again has lots of stone cottages, a main square in the centre of town, views across the valleys etc. Garth bought a sandwich in a small cafe in the village, and for less than $6, got a baguette at least ten inches long, four inches across and choc-a-block full of ham, Brie, and salad. He ate it over three sittings (possibly because he ...

I had forgotten how long it takes to drive a couple of hundred kilometres in Europe. It took us all day to do what would take us a couple of hours at home! We planned on two main stops between Albi and our final destination of Issigeac, but knew we would have some unexpected stops when we saw towns and villages of beauty. Unfortunately just about every one of the dozens and dozens of little villages were stunning, requiring us to drive slowly because ...

Marsolan - Condom (you thought I was joking) 17 km

Thankfully madam did provide us with breakfast this morning..the usual bread (fresh) and jam...and big bowls of coffee and hot milk. Off we go again this time to La Romieu 10 kms where we expected to have lunch and then go by taxi to Condom as Condom was to be a further 16 km...whilst walking and looking at the map we decided to disobey the pilgrim signs and follow the road to La Romieu......after many miles up hill and down dale and no sign ...

... were still hanging thickly on the vines, but looking rather 'punk'...this, as it turns out, is exactly the state they want the grapes to be in!

The sweet Monbazillac wine is made from grapes infected with botrytis cinerea, a fungus known in these parts as the "noble rot"! The three grapes used, Semillon, Sauvignon, & Muscadelle, are ...

      Day 23 Maillhan

It felt abut strange to be back on the bikes but after a few miles we were back into travelling 55 miles today camping back at Maillhan by the canal. The bikes felt better after cleaning and re-oiling all 4 chains! We also felt a bit safer having Adjusted our disc brakes. Wild life views today included deer this morning then kingfishers winging ahead of us along the canal and a kite. Then a ...
