... before relinquishing ownership in the 20th century. The finished chateau is very impressive - it is absolutely huge and has amazing views over the surrounding countryside. It also has a chapel with floors on two levels - the first one for the Lords is on street level, and the other level for the villagers is below the ground, down a very steep staircase. Apparently the Lords though they should be closer to God than the villagers ...

Visited the lovely Chateau Monbazillac to learn more about the other famous wine of the region, the sweet Monbazillac. The chateau sits high on a hill overlooking the valley and it, like many others, is surrounded by acres and acres of vineyards. When we stepped out of the car we could smell the heady aroma of fermenting grapes, and we noticed that ...

The most spectacular part of today's journey was the colour of autumn leaves. And we moved through the fruit growing area. We are in the area close to the River Garonne. We found the aire and it was adequate. It reminded me of a gite we stayed in some years ago in the Dordogne. There were posters telling camping car occupants what they should and shouldn't do! We had a lot of downloads to complete, but the nearest MacDonalds was 25 km away. Knowing that some tourist offices ...
