A half hour journey from the site took us to the base of Puy de Dome, NW of Clermont-Ferrand, where you arrive at the car park, visitor centre and station. Since May 2012 visitors may only access the peak via an electric rack railway - a very modern affair - which has been laid on the route ...

... Veringetorix, who almost halted Caesar's success in Gaul. Fountain of Aloise. Statue to Pope Urbain the Second, who initiated the Curia in Rome and set up the first crusade. Then looked into the Unesco listed Notre Dame du Port Basilica with really impressive roof line and tiling. Back to camp to meet up with Rob and Rob again, who had driven in from Lyon. They had also scored a tour of the Michelin factory before retiring to Maccas to collect ...
