    ... on top of it. Poor Rob, it's all stairs up. Mind you, there are several stops along the way to admire the fabulous view. It's low tide when we arrive and we can see several groups out walking on the sand over towards another small island. These groups can only go with a guide as there is quicksand around and when the tide turns, it comes in quite fast. We have a good look around and tour the abbey as well.     ... rooms. Several of us took the van into the nearest town, Port Louis, to see the fort and French East India museum. Another great visit. Then back to the hotel for a swim in the pool and a relax in the spa in our room! Dinner at 8. We had a room to ourselves and the food and service were the best of the week.     ... of in Le Mans by the rest of the family who waited with us on the train platform until the very last moment to say goodbye.  They are all such wonderful people.  As we gave kisses and hugs, and waved goodbye, we are sure we will see each other again, and feel very blessed with the kindness and hospitality we have been shown the last two days.     It was great to have a nice and relaxing day close to the gite without having to drive too far.

    This trip has certainly shown us the benefit of basing ourselves in one location for an extended period rather than being on the go, moving from town to town each day and we know that any trips we do in the future will be spent in only one or two locations and using those places as a base to explore the area.

    ... Begun in 708, the Abbey, fortifications and village evolved over time and was renowned for holding off the English during the Hundred Year War. Over several floors we were able to visit the refectory, cloister, church, guest hall, the great pillared crypt and a giant wheel which was used to hoist supplies up to the Abbey.
