Living It Up On The French Riviera

Antibes is a small, quaint town in the French Riviera in between the tourist centers of Nice and Cannes. Our hotel - Le Cameo - was in a beautiful square, Place Nationale, in the center of town. Our room was lovely and had a wonderful balcony overlooking the tree-lined square. At night time, we would walk around the romantic town all lit up and it was quite busy, with many restaurants, lively cafes and markets. It had an old fortress from days gone by, but you could walk the length of its sto...

2 hours in Monaco

ok, it was more "collecting a new country" than being really interested in Monaco. Strange, when you go there from Nice airport by bus it costs you 18 € one way, when you go from Nice bus terminal it costs 1 € one way. Monaco is a very clean city. I have never seen so many big and expensive cars. I saw the casino and the castle. Nice, but not spectacular.

... have an amazing view from Colline du Chateau. On saturday (November 28) we had sunshine and 19 degrees (end of November) and I was even swimming in the sea (15 gegrees), on sunday, November 29 we had rain and thunderstorms so that caused a delay of the plane of three hours. Best breakfast in town you find in "Les pains a tables" close to the market. Nice is a city IŽd love to visit once a year minimum.....

... gesture. We can't change the world but we can change the way these children start off in life and who knows where that will lead....

It is less than 4 weeks now until I leave. There is much to do. I am trying to prepare myself for "teaching" 20 - 25 children. A bit of a challenge that. Much as I have known that I have always wanted to do something like this, now that it ...

... hand lounge chairs. Thus we have to be pretty organised - everything has a home and has to go back there as soon as you've finished with it. This also means that every takes a long time... so our alarm goes off at 6,30am. This gives us 30 min to awake from our sleepy haze then coffee and breakfast 1/2 hr. Then make the bed into table and chairs. Change into running gear and run round the current place of abode. Shower and dress... even if we did everything with military ...

... of swimming in the pool, we had a sleep when we checked into the hotel, and it was probably the best nooze we've had since we began our journey. Feeling a little refreshed, w decided to splash out that night with a delicious pasta in a cute little restaurant and pour la dessert, we went back to the bakery we discovered earlier in the week for mille fluer for Dee and tarte au citron avec meringue pour le Lewey. Les desserts c'est tres bien! Apart from splashing out at the hotel, we'd been ...

... right on the edge of Monaco. It is way up on a cliff over looking the sea and coastline. There we walked up more steps to an “Exotic garden” that is filled with Cactus and succulents from all over the world. Did you know that agave is native to this area. The gorgeous view, from above the sea and surrounding towns, was of the ships and sailboats and houses and apt., and all the way out to Corisca. There is an airport nearby and we were even above the airplanes. This ...

Wow what a change a TGV ride makes! We headed south to the coastal town of Antibes, former home of Picasso, for our first home exchange. For those of you new to the practice, we've arranged to stay in a home while the owners stay in ours. In our case, they will come to Seattle later in the year, but both of us will enjoy vacation without the hotel fees. Marie Therese and Michel, experienced home exchangers, welcomed us to their condo with a lovely lunch. The ...

... we sat in the train station where we witnessed some passport checks by scary, Italian policemen. At this point I was really glad that I had my friend Lina with me and decided that I wasn't the traveling alone type. About 45 minutes before my train, I was looking at the screen trying to figure out what "sorpressa" means and wondering why my train didn't have a platform number. A really pretty girl came up to us and asked a question about the train to Milan that Lina was ...

Last days in Antibes and surrounds

... we later found the sun was shining until we brought the clouds back with us! The Gorges are an impressive sight with their huge limestone cliffs. The road was hair raising but not as bad as the Amalfi coast, although in parts almost, with the road cut under huge overhangs as it follows the River, often one lane. Have to sound the horn in a few places as well, but very well maintained. On the way back we stopped at the village of Castellane, one of the ...
