our way we set off on what turned out to be a five hour walk to the top of a
mountain and back.
The first four kilometers was up what I will call the 37
corner path. The route was along an old road that wound its way through 37
corners up to the top of the cliff. From here we took an arbitrary turnoff and

Making our way here, having arranged a reservation from our last town, we were told we would be sharing a room so were VERY pleasantly surprised when we went to our assigned room number 10 and found only two single beds. Between them is a small window that opens so we can see -- if the clouds cooperate-- the entire valley below and, if we look right, the peaks of the mountains above us.

... to deteriorate throughout the day. We were advised to go to the top first. So we booked in and checked out the webcam at the top, after being advised it was snowing on top. Sure enough, a white out and virtually no visibility, so it was not looking good for shots of Mont Blanc!
