We took a long ol drive today, heading to the Loire Valley and we thank Grandma for the Loaning of the portable DVD player!!! We can drive in peace, looking out to the sights around, so many pretty villages and once again took the minor roads (a motorway is just a motorway!).

... which also explains why Le Mont St Michel can only be reached via the causeway in low tide, although a permanent higher causeway is currently being built - a bit disappointing as it takes away some of the mystique of the place. Today we started our 4 day trip to Le Mans and back.
We got started at 11am local time having disembarked from the Jersey to St.Malo ferry.
We had lunch in Pontorson and one or two coffee breaks along the way.
We got to Ernee and out hotel at around 7pm French time, exhausted. About 75 miles covered today.
The hotel had messed up our room booking but they managed to put us all in one room. We went out to try and buy some food ...

To account for the large variation in the tides that occur here, major works have taken place and when completed access to the monastery will be on a raised roadway on a bus, with the car park some kilometres away.
