Not only does the route highlight some of the best wineries in France, it also demonstrates the incredible beauty of the Alsace countryside. The Alsace Wine Route extends from north to south and covers an area of about 106 miles. Eventually we trudged back knowing we had burnt our boats and the hotel bar/restaurant would now be closed. And then we saw the kebab shop. Joy. And actually the kebabs were lovely and the charming chap even sold us beers too. And he offered ...

... 233; and test out the local pastries. We then went to the Notre Dame Museum just beside the cathedral. Got to see medieval artwork up close as well as carvings from the cathedral that had to be removed. Some of these artists from the Middle Ages were messed up! We went for lunch to try local specialties : tarte flambee ( thin dough topped with sour cream, onions, and bacon ) and wild boar. It was a little disconcerting that they had filet of horse on the menu. Finally ...
