This week has been a highlight. We joined "hundreds" of French people and stocked up on cheap groceries and petrol near the border before crossing from Spain into France. Our first (magnificent) French meal was at an idyllic setting by the river in St Etienne de Baigorry. This is where we said goodbye to Peter & Myriam.

... br> The views on the way up the valley were spectacular as we would expect. Towards the end of the walk, we walked around a corner and were faced with a view that has now become my number one mountain view ever, absolutely stunning. We sat and had lunch taking it all in.

We are moving on tomorrow heading towards the Pyrenees Atlantiques. We plan to be at our friends in Bedous by the end of the week and then it will be back through France to Calais. The ferry is ...

When we finally got there, we could see people lining the main bridge across the river. Rob suddenly said -' Good God - there's a car in the river!!'

... we had picked out a campsite on the edge of town ,right by the river
As we negotiated the one way system it became obvious there was some sort of Fair or procession going on, with bands and a group of men in long costumes with banners, followed by people on horseback.- and guess what ended up at the Tail End of the parade - a great big white motorhome!!

After breakfast in our Mirepoix hotel, we set off for Carcassone, the most intact medieval walled city in Europe. The city has two sets of walls, the last having been built in the twelfth century.
