    Most Americans believe that the French are not too fond of us. We hear stories of people who traveled to Paris and were amazed at the coldness of the waitstaff at the café or the blank stares of strangers on a train. I was so afraid to open my mouth on the plane ride over here because so many of the other passengers were French, and I thought they would view me as just another ignorant American.

    ... to pick her up again. Then after her mother put her to bed, she came down and got me out of my room to come tuck her in too. It's moments like that which remind me that the uphill climb is worth it!
