... no photos are allowed. Some said before I came that so many natives have moved away from Venice for lack of jobs, leaving the tourist industry and the tourists, that it is more like a large museum than a city. I think it is more like living inside the most romantic film you've seen, except the cinematographer is my eyes, the soundtrack my headphones, the extras are the locals and, this is the best part, no leading man is necessary.

... giving you a rose. Fortunately I know how this scam works, as once you take the rose they demand five Euro or so for a flower you never even wanted in the first place. Anyways, Venice is so charming and beautiful that I can overlook the small annoyances and ignore it as best I can. Porto Cervo

Today we drove to Porto Cervo and walked through the marina where we saw huge fancy yachts and stores. A Ferrari cafe, Maserati bikes and cars, and chic boutiques. Then we drove the Costa Smeralda. Ad took our plane to Rome. When we arrived at Rome we met even more family, Zia Lella, her son Paulo and his wife. We drive around Rome and had an overview of the colosseum, The Vatican, and Rome. ... is. After unpacking we headed up to the buffet restaurant for lunch. So much choice from hotdogs, chips, salad bar, 5 different pastas, cold meats, vegies, ethnic and a dessert area. The buffet restaurant is open 20 hours a day in case you ever hungry. It is a good thing that we have taken the stairs more times than we have the lift as food is certainly bountiful.

... that led us through the maze. When we got to the Grand Canal at an area called Rialto It started raining so hard that people huddled under anything for cover, and there were lots of people. Thank God for planning ahead. Our raincoats, which you have and will continue to see us wearing, were just what we needed. They kept us dry and our smartwool sweaters kept us warm.
