Viva Espana!

... our first surfing destination to dip a toe or two into a deserted Atlantic which Lym thoroughly enjoyed, however which led Annabelle to looking like an extra from a B-grade vampire movie; this following her surfboard and her face becoming rather intimate. Enough for one day, onward to our campsite at historic Santillana del Mar.

Hola, Espana!

... time to walk around Bilbao.

Wow! Bilbao is fantastic! It reminds me of Bogota, only cooler. It is surrounded by beautiful hills (unless you live in Texas, then they’re mountains!). You can almost smell the sea. We had a short nap after we checked in then got up and had lunch (we showed up at a bout 2:30 and the guy told us we were just a bit early for lunch, but he served us). Sure enough ...

A true Casa Rural

We drove from Madrid, got a bit lost trying to find Lurdea. We thought it is a name of a village but it is not it is just the name of the Hotel/Casa Rural.

The place is amazing. Located in the hills above Bermeo, with magnificent view of the ocean. It is clean (like really clean) and has the air of a relaxing boutique hotel.

What is the Best Place in Bilbao

Bilbao, the capital of Viscaya in the county, with the nice weather and climate that is milder than in most other parts of the peninsula, rarely falling below freezing in winter or rising above 35 degree C in summer.

One of the best features of this place is the collection of Museums that exhibit the artifacts that well ...

Bilboa...

... somewhere you want to stay. True is relatively near the tube into the city (a cab ride of about £5) but it's not worth it. We left and didn't pay for the night we stayed there (I'm not sorry).

We also came to the conclusion that we needed a car so hired one to drive us to San Seb. Spent a another day in Bilbao seeing the obvious Guggenheim.

Spain day 21 - The Painted Forest

... and Jaione brought Spanish Palas and teach us how to play the Spanish game we've seen on all the beaches. It is SO FUN! No score, just smashing the ball back and forth. All four of us (well, the kids too, so that makes six) have a blast playing on the beach. This beach is famous for a pathway that allows you to venture out to dramatic island in the middle of the bay at low tide, but eating lunch causes us to miss our window of opportunity for the day. As we bake in the sun ...

San Sebastian

... full of only girls. That´s right. My own room for a night AND surrounded by girls from several different countries...and for only €14 a night! Who´s living luxury now? With my accommodation set for the rest of my stay, I hit the streets to see what San Sebastian had to offer. San Sebastian is such a contrasting city to Barcelona in many ways. Its much smaller and portrays itself as almost a little perfect town where there are no problems and everyone ...

... are hilerously small but allowed for some shut eye at least! We headed around the city for a walk and it was interesting that the buildings look a lot different to those in Barcelona. San Sabastian is very close to the France border so I am guessing that has something to do with it. We hit the bars and restaurants that ...

... arrived and tore the place apart! We bailed ...and cruised along the coast...layed in the sun and swam at Zarautz and then onto San Seb at dusk. Now it is Wednesday and we are meeting up with Saskia in Southern France for the weekend, so we hope to get at least another surf or two in before we sell our boards and render ourselves Roxy-less!! Ciao babes! ps. Randal - you wanted photographic evidence in support of the yellow food theory...photo 5 is all for you!!
