    ... never to go on that kind of tour, no matter how decrepit we become. We have enough independence in us to resist such a tour. It sounded ghastly.     ... the past as well as the modern. It was probably all the rage back in the day. It was nice weather, the best we've had so far so we walked along the esplanade. The Rhine is a lovely river and we saw boats like the one we are about to board tomorrow for our cruise. In the afternoon we watched a film about the Cologne cathedral and then walked around the cathedral. It is simply huge and we could easily have spent a day exploring it.     ... in we head over the bridge covered in padlocks to visit the cathedral. It must have been one of the few buildings to remain after Cologne was heavily bombed.

    Lovely city..so we hopped on the inevitable tourist bus which zipped us round the sights...

    ... our dinner at Burg Namedy Castle, home of Princess von Hohenzollern. Before sitting down for our delicious meal we have time to wander around the castle's opulent rooms. Our meal is served in a very large lavish dinning room. During the meal courses we are entertained by some very talented up and coming musicians.

    We returned to the ship at 10.30pm.

    ... you come out of Köln station is the massive Cathedral. It's really quite impressive. As it was after 8pm we didn't think it would be open anymore but decided to walk round and have a look anyway. Good decision by us!
