San Jose to Fortuna

It was only 4 hours from Cahuita to San Jose and then we got a taxi straight to our next bus terminal to travel to the North of Costa Rica - to Fortuna. We were really lucky as we arrived in San Jose at 11am and left at 11.30am, so no time hanging around. The bus journey to Fortuna was supposed to be 3 hours and actually turned out to be over 5 hours!!! So by the time we got there we had seen enough of buses for one day. Our hostel is great, we have a big private room, with 2 double beds and ...

Puerto Viejo - first regret of the trip....

5th August
Woke up pretty hung over and with the runs from the watered down beer. Maybe too much info for some, but others would like to know just how runny and smelly it really was! Foul, always take things one step too far dont you Darryl.
Anyway, headed to the terminal, smashed down some of my favourite, pollo asado, abit risky considering my punishment on the bowl moments earlier, but i felt better for it, and managed to keep it all down which was a relief ...

... my Kindle while I waited for my pizza. Very nice!
The pizza was absolutely delicious. It totally satisfied my pizza craving. Then it was time for dessert. I went to Bread and Chocolate again for a chocolate milkshake and a piece of chocolate cake. The cake I had today was even better than the cake I had yesterday. This was a good weekend for eating!
The ride back to Cartago took 4 hours ...

... things. Your mind can really get into a rut and it isn't until you say what you were thinking to someone else that you realize the huge chunks you forgot to equate into what you were thinking in the first place, changing your outlook completely. It was a refreshing night and much needed. The food at Christen's site is amazing too. All fresh veggies from their garden, fresh milk from their cows, and there is a plentiful amount of fruit. Mmm ...

My visit to Puerto Viejo and Bambu

A while ago Isaac Garcia, one of the directors of Tropical Adventures asked me if I wanted to join him on a trip to the projects in Puerto Viejo and Bambu. The main reason for this trip was to inform the people in Bambu about the Children Incorporated project in a town meeting. After the terrible flooding in November 2008 and February 2009 Tropical Adventures has formed a partnership with Children Inc. to create a farmer's market for the community. Off ...

Note: Costa Ricans call themselves "Ticos," so that's how I will refer to them Day 2 (Tuesday): -Breakfast was toast and mango -I walked to the Monteverde Institute with 2 girls from my program, it was a 20 minute walk -Monteverde is absolutely beautiful, nature there is so untouched and hermosa -The morning was ...

Costa Rica -Caribbean and highlands

... in Costa Rica, they were turtles and crabs. We casually spent two relaxing days on the beach, enjoying the tranquillo Caribbean vibe of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca before making our way to the highlands. We started with La Fortuna under fog, rain and cold (18C). La Fortuna was home to Costa Rica's most active volcano, producing ash columns, explosions and red streamers of molten rocks almost daily for the past forty years. Well ...

La Tortuga Feliz (The Happy Turtle)

Hola Chicas y chicos Firstly, sorry, still no photos......canīt download onto these computers and the ones I have already downloaded onto my memory stick I cannot resize to upload...sigh - damn technology! Anyway, obviously I am back in the land of technology - and a little disturbed by it all truth be known! Where to start for the last 3 weeks.....at the beginning I guess! ... trek, but the baby turtle scampered over it with surprising speed. At one point, after it had reached the sand smoothed by the receding tide, it appeared to be home free, until it hit the heel impression of a footprint running parallel to the shore. The little turtle fit entirely within the width of the heel, and struggled mightily to climb back out; for a second, it looked like it wasn't going to make it. But with its flippers spinning like toy ...
