Calle Michel Perez 1-3 Copacabana, Bolivia, 00591/-72508668
Copacabana Our first introduction to Bolivia was in the beautiful town on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Weekenders eating food from street stalls near the shore, paddle-boating, picnicking, religious ceremonies; it seemed like a very festive culture. One Sunday morning, we passed by the Cathedral in town, and witnessed a strange Bolivian custom or ritual. Once a month, people from surrounding areas come to this highly respected Cathedral not to bless there babies, souls, or dead...but instead,...
Copacabana, Bolivia ashifreeshma... sanity reasons after 3 weeks of eating out! We chose Wednesday to be our relaxing day (swayed by the England - Belarus game which Ben thought he would be able to watch in the afternoon), so booked ourselves on a day tour to the Isla del Sol….an Island in Lake Titicaca, not too far away but at the speed we went on the boat it felt like 500 miles away! It took 3 hours of chugging away and we had failed to bring a book or anything so I had one exceptionally ...
Copacabana, Bolivia benyclaire... to wait for the ferry to be full, so once another car had driven on, we set off.
The journey out of the harbour involved pushing the ferry using a long pole (a bit like punting!) until into the deeper water when the engine started, it was not much faster but at least it was smooth and Bilbo stayed upright. It was fun spotting the biggest vehicles on the ferries whilst going across as there were buses being carried by these planks of wood strapped together. A ...
Two nights on the largest island in Lake Titicaca! Walked from one end to the other (about 8 km - 5 miles) and back the next day! I´m getting really good at trekking in high altitudes =)
Tons of pics, so I will add more details when I finally upload the pics...
... and do their Paparazzi work, this definitely wasn´t a prime original: This was a Delboy sacrifice table if ever I saw one. The Maze was a little more convincing, but at the end of the day, I was more interested in guzzling down the Ham and Alpaca Cheese sandwich that Mrs friendly sandwich lady had so kindly prepared for us when we left Copacabana that morning. And I was dying for a Beer.
A 3 hour slog across the hills via a lot of broken old ruined ...
... gone down and out in the nearest can, we jumped into another cranked out old taxi to drop us at the bus station. Seamless! we jumped out the taxi, bought 2 tickets to the lake and the bus left 10 mins later. If only everything went this easily! Normally you have to wait around for at least half an hour or an hour while the mental driver whacks the tyres on the bus with a big mallet or throws water on the engine, or ...
Copacabana, La Paz, Bolivia alberto66... amout of people crammed onto the boat. The boat definately felt more like a bus than a taxi, but then it was exactly expensive.
So we reached the North of the Island, tagged along with Yvonne and Robert (very Dutch names!) to start with as they also had the added benefit of having a map! The first section was up to some ruins on the Island, stopping off at a look out point. By this time we realised we were not going to ...
... half of the room... as he had to clean it again, I was like a raging bull... and we left and found another hostal. I got quite angry with Al as he hadnt tried to help me in my argument (I was a b***h!). anyway, after a shower in the non electric shock shower and a wander down by the water and lunch... all was okay!
We booked the isla del sol tour (sun island= for the next day - only 20b...(about 2 quid...!)
got the 2hour boat to ...
