... blue wondering whether I had done the right thing. The pedicure was basic using some very basic creams and a wide selection of five colours, actually four, as two pots were the same colour. I did not ask about the sterilisation of utensils as it was obvious that a squirt with a spray of some magical formula, (no idea what) was sufficient. As for the waxing, well there was no worry of spreading disease here as she ladled a green wedge of gloppy wax and spread it down my leg ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina prieststrip... that I had to to take my tablets for seven days before entering a malaria zone; given that I wanted to go to Iguazu within two or three days, this was not good news. Must find maladrone! I thought to myself, as I knew you only needed to take that for a day or so beforehand. I went to a pharmacy down the road, where the pharmacist is a lovely friendly lady who I had chatted to the previous evening, in fact, when stocking up on paracetamol and other medical supplies ...
Salta, Argentina alastair6... locals were playing handmade instruments to show off the acoustics, and a section called 'The Devils Throat’ (yes our second ‘devils throat’ of the trip for avid readers out there) which allowed us to do some clambering around on rocks to get to the middle of this hollowed out vertical tunnel made by water. At this point we also got to sample some local llama and alpaca cheeses out of the boot of a woman’s car!
The drive ...
... Argentina completely disillusioned, Kike took it upon himself to help me practise Spanish, learn about northern Argentine culture and his family even invited me for a traditional Asado at their house where I tried Bolivian spirits his father distilled, learned how to chew coco leaves and bantered about gringos. These families showed my the care-free welcoming nature of Argentina I had been told of so often and helped restore my faith by their small gestures of ...
Salta, Argentina danm1986... destination for the weekend Bolivia to start a revolution and fight there. To die there. To be martyred there by the C.I.A. I am surprised Americans are allowed into Argentina at all. I want to find out more. I am humbled by such an amazing life, I am inspired, to say I am pleased I went is a massive understatement, I cannot find the superlative to express how visiting this place has impacted on me. But it is fitting that after the sun sets on today, again I move. I keep moving.
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina robdy2k... of being in a rainly, cold and claudy environment, we arrived at the dessert! It was hot, clear and beautiful. A dessert full with catussus. We continued the trip until Cauchi, where we had a chicken lunch. after an hour we drove back to the hostel another 3,5 hours, where we prepared ourselves a nice Argentinian BBQ. The next few days we spent playing tabletennis, chewing coca leaves and ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina hansjew... display of digestive pyrotechnics. But alas it has happened to the best of us and will be a story to tell. Luckily we got a ride home from one of the guys we'd met that night, I was initially hesitant as I was sure he'd been drinking but my challenges were met with "this is Argentina, dont worry". So I ended up sitting in the back of his pick-up truck while he went 'hell for leather' down the highway to San Lorenzo whilst trying to get Tom to tell us exactly where he lived in between his ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina danm1986... friendly, but still friendly. Going from Uruguay to Argentina was a little like trading in my super-sized Big Mac meal for a children's Happy Meal. I had to downsize, and I am not sure I quite got used to it. Argentineans are a funny bunch, and difficult to analyze. Argentineans do have a snobbish reputation - something you do see in a lot of indivduals - and these people should work hard to rid themselves of this reputation. I found ...
Salta, Argentina dudeonthemove... sure we could find it for later (we did!) and popped out at 8.30pm ready rather ravenous after all the driving. We opened the tin door behind the house that had the restaurant sign and found ourselves in a garage-like room on the edge of a courtyard garden. The owner welcomed us profusely, offered us a drink and then phoned the cook to come in. We ended up having a lovely meal with some local wine, on our own in the restaurant, watching Bridget Jones (in English) on the ...
Chicoana, Argentina candcthai... that they had tix for Thursday!! We were very happy to hear that. We´ve booked onto a couple of tours, one tomorrow to Quebrada del Toro and one for Monday - a cloud forest trip. Sat 23 Feb We had a bad nights sleep as the hostel was very noisy :( We got up at 5.10am and walked to the Movitrack offices. Our guide, Edgar, showed us the route we would be taking that day. He spoke very good English so this was our first trip understanding what was ...
