    ... ll remember from school, was a Portuguese explorer who led a Spanish expedition to the East Indies, making him the first circumnavigator of the Earth. (I wonder if they also remember that he was killed here.)     ... pier that we were originally to dock out apparently had been "taken out by bad weather" so they had a makeshift dock ready for the ferry. The ferry by the way, probably held about 350-400 passengers, and also the lower level was for cars and cargoe. The ferry was docked on the new pier, by throwing the rope around a rock on the land.     ... colonized three times...for 300 years by the Spanish who made them indentured slaves and servants....americans...who really freed them from Spanish rule and set them on a path to sovereignty..,and the Japanese for only about 4 years before the Americans came and liberated them needless to say Americans are well liked here.
