La Fortuna San Carlos Alajuela, Province of Alajuela, Costa Rica
... watched and talked about our trip. It was the arrival in Dallas that made us feel our vacation had truly begun. I sent a few text messages before leaving the USA as the phone we had was a global phone but once out of the USA, the prices for usage are $2.89 a minute and $1.00 per text message. At 5:15 p.m. CST, boarding began for American Airlines Flight 2167 Dallas-Fort Worth to San Jose, Costa Rica. Once ...

Santa Elena, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica smiley_kab... and not eat fatty meat..didnīt mention anything about beer!! Week 7 Monday we trekked through the Santa Elena reserve for a few hours. We heard many birds and animals scuttling around but did not manage to actually see anything other than some caterpillars and the odd spider. Tuesday and it was time to push on for San Jose, the capital of Costa rica and the last stop on Ollies trip. I think he was already ...
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica shanem... taking some pretty rough trails, and they seemed to be really looking ahead, forming strategies for how best to navigate the terrain. I felt bad about not letting Chispa eat anything, especially as there was nothing to drink and she must have been getting thirsty, so I let her grab a mouthful when we were stopped. I didn't want to fall behind everyone else, though, so I pulled up on the reins whenever she tried to grab a bite on the go, and soon she'd ...
Santa Elena, Costa Rica espriseme... do it myself and went alone. Which it turned out being more fun alone because you could see much better without another person attached to you. Katherine did the Tarzan Swing. Which is a swing where you climb up a few stories and free fall down a little ways before you start to swing. The canopy tour was really neat because you kind of flew through the rainforest and sometimes you were alot ...
Monteverde, Costa Rica bell.costarica... rice, soup, and this thing that looked like stuffing. After dinner the workers turned on the music and the dancing began. Juan, the bartender, taught us how to dance. It was wonderful. I wished it could have gone on forever because we don't partner dance in the US. Juan and I talked about our families. It was fun to feel the growing confidence grow in me when I had to speak Spanish. After the dancing we played a few hands of cards and then I was ready for bed.
Poas, Costa Rica safari07...
Heredia, Costa Rica vagabond-ing... several tourists from Puebla, Mexico, a young couple from Israel, Francisco and Carla, an Ecuadorian couple living in Massachusetts and Hank, the lone traveler from Atlanta. The lush green drive to the coffee farm was a welcome break from the hideousness of San Jose. In case you can't tell, we were not a fan of the Capital city. I am not a coffee drinker. I believe I had my only cup of Java when I was 6 or 7 ...
Alajuela, Costa Rica semi-backpacker... seconds. 6 ish Kira is unwake-able, as friend shouts my name several times to tell me to get off the bus. Seconds later, as I descend the bus stairs, the doors close on me! I panic. Luckily, other passengers interpreted my panic (in Spanish) as "Open the back door! There's someone trying to get off!" Whew... I made it. 6:10 We pick up the keys to the cabin. The lady gives us directions: Walk there, no farther. You'll see a (tropical fruit) tree. The house is yellow. You ...
