We left San Vicente and followed the wonderful NW Spanish coast (when you can see it) and went to Ribadesella. Originally we were thinking of anchoring but then decided to moor along the pontoon in the marina. We weren't going to stay long, just overnight.
In the evening there was a performance in the towns square. We didn't attend but listened to the seagulls, surprisingly in tune, joining along.
... bus route was just brilliant - it took you through gorges, past sheer cliff faces, alongside mountains and farms etc etc.
We got to Fuente Te and took the cable car into the clouds. Shame we were unable to see the last 150 m but nevertheless it was excellent.
When we got back to San Vicente we enjoyed some local delicacies. A most enjoyable day.
... the end they decided to leave the buoy and move to the marina. Much to their disappointment (and our sympathies) the marina dried out in LW so we are unsure of what ended up happening to them but we seem to think that they possibly had an unexpected night passage.
In the morning, after a fairly restless night listening to and experiencing the wash from fishing boats leaving and reentering the harbour, we took the dinghy and went ashore and provisioned.
... lot of horrible things happened under Franco's dictatorship. Also, not to get morbid, but our tour guide explained that people on death row were allowed to choose how they wanted to die (between being hanged or guillotined... Such appealing options). What was interesting is that other options included being a suicide bomber or working for a couple decades (I.e. Basically a concentration camp). We are lucky to live in modern day America!
Until next time,
... br> After a long day or walking, it was time to head home. I am really happy we went on these excursions because I feel like I learned a lot more than I would have if I just had free time. It really made me appreciate the culture of northern Spain. I'm sad it's over!
Tomorrow is our free day and I'm excited. After that, a long week of classes, the final, and then we head to Salamanca!
I'll be keeping you posted!
