Historical Traveler Reviews of Las Americas Hotel Lima
Everything you need in a good location

We stopped at this hotel in March 06 as part of a big tour of South America. Compared to others we stayed in on our tour, this was above average. It is in a great location for exploring the safer parts of Lima and the service was good, the rooms were clean, and the food was better than in many other hotels we visited.
Overall we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone and we thought it was good value too.
Excellent Location Good Overall

The hotel is in a perfect part of Lima accessible to the local markets, the beach and many tourist shops. We were there around New Years.
We felt very safe at the hotel and the breakfast buffet was very very good (local & american food), great coffee. Starting at this hotel was great to get in the mood of Lima. If you want to get the feel of Peru for 1 or 2nights before you start the rest of your vacation it was a good relaxing way to start. The rooms were dark but sufficient. You don't stay here for the rooms or a luxury experience. The rooms are average but if you hate smoking, ask for the non-smoking floor!!!
Calling the hotel directly or the 800# gave you a higher rate than booking it on-line via Expedia. There is a local rate and tourist rate. At the hotel the rates posted in the lobby are 25% higher than the real rate so make sure you get the discount on-line or at the desk, we exteneded our trip one addt'l night. The hotel was a great place The street corners have periuvian's exchanging u.s. dollars into solares ($)***better exchange rate vs the actual banks***definitely use them!!
Across the street from the NY casino an ATM does not charge a fee but the rate was still better with the people on the street. Thus, BRING U.S.DOLLARS!!!!!!
If you love to shop you can walk. Ask for directions to the local dept store Ripley's (Macy's type) and a 1/2 block before that is a great cheap local supermarket and the prices are fantastic relative to U.S. stores. The local markets are even less money but you need to negotiate. Offer 10% of whatever the locals want and if you get it for 60-80% off of original price you got a good deal.
From the airport to the hotel should be about $20 for a limo (you can negotiate at the airport)dont use a local taxi at this point for convenience purposes. Going back to the airport we paid $10 with a local taxi which is the normal rate.
Would definitely stay there again based on location.

I stayed at the hotel November 29th and it's a nice hotel. Rooms are a little dark - not good lighting. Bathroom was good and had a hairdryer. Breakfast was very good - great coffee.... Location: Close to a great grocery store and bring your USD - the Indian Market is just down the street - great shopping. They love the US dollar - take small bills and have fun. Food in the city was good - don't drink the tap water - only bottled.
Excellent Food: Restaurant Huaca Pucllana
Las Americas, great hotel

The Las Americas Hotel in Lima is a great hotel. Before we left the States for Lima, I arranged through the hotel for a driver to meet us at the airport. This worked out well, and in fact we used the same driver, Paulo, to take us on a tour of the city the next day. Paulo spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable about Peru. The hotel is located in Miraflores a few blocks from the ocean. Around the corner from the hotel is a large market where you can buy bottled water, snacks or deli items. The hotel caters to airline personnel as well as business travelers and tourists. The restaurant in the hotel is excellent. I highly recommend this hotel

We stayed at the Las Americas Hotel twice during our tour of Peru, we found it fresh and clean, the staff were helpful, a really good choice available for the breakfasts that were included, we used the restaurant on the 5th floor in the late afternoon to wind down and to relax before getting ready to hit the town.
We otherwise ate out in Lima.
Ideally located with a great little supermarket on the corner.
Plenty of Restaurants (10+)1/2 mile to the right of the hotel and it's safe to walk.
We would definitly stay here again if in Lima
Great place

Stayed here in late September for 4 days. Rooms were comfortable and nicely furnished, with all the amenities you require. Room Services was good and the hotel was centrally located in Miraflores. The staff were very helpful, informative and very accommodating. Overall a good hotel in Lima
Have stayed a few times at this hotel

I agree, there is consistency in the quality of this hotel. From the front door, I noticed security is better than in other hotels I have stayed. Firm mattresses, Clean rooms, courteous staff, real breakfast buffet included (from fresh fruit to made-to order omelettes). The regular restaurant food is nothing extraordinary, but, in the afternoon, they offer a "lonche", equivalent to tea time on the 5th Floor, from 5pm to 8pm (approx) for 25 soles (around 7 dollars) including one cocktail, plus tea/coffee and 3 sandwiches of your choice (large tea sandwiches and a dessert (also of your choice)! Location is very good, unless it is a holiday (Christmas, or Valentine's Day) when its good central location/acess results in overwhelming traffic in the area. At the corner is a very well stocked supermarket, as well as dry cleaners and phamacy. Many hotels are located in this area, so there are many choices for restaurants, and 7 blocks West (Pacific Ocean) across from the Marriott Hotel is Larcomar (open Mall), with a view of the sea, many shops, restaurants.
I am biased, and tend to judge hotels by their towels, so far when I stayed at the Sheraton, Melia and Las Americas, they always offer bright white towels (No, I don't like color towels in a hotel).
Very Good Hotel, specially if you get a good internet rate, under 100 dollars per night.
We enjoyed staying here.

We stayed three nights at Las Americas Hotel. It is clean, friendly english speaking staff, and a very good location. The breakfast (included with our room) was extensive. I would not hesitate to book a room here.

I stayed at Hotel Las Americas for four nights in Feb 2002. I got a great rate deal by internet ($90/night). Despite the hotel's reputation as one of the best in Lima, the staff was unaffected and extremely friendly. I met one of the bartenders my first night, and when I asked for a recommendation on some nightlife, he invited me out to a local disco after his shift. Had a great time. The lobby merchant mall was full service, helped to arrange immunizations for jungle exploration, and their travel agency booked my flight to Iquitos. When I had to change the date of my flight, they did so hassel-free, without extra cost. Great water pressure. Downside, very thin walls. No one stayed in the rooms on either side of me, but I could often hear the TV from a room two doors down.
Super Hotel!

I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past three years. It is outstanding in every respect. A helpful, courteous staff goes out of their way to not just meet needs, but anticipate them. Very, very nice rooms with many amenities. Quiet and safe, within walking distance of great restaurants, shopping and the best ocean overlook in Lima. Can't recommend it too much.
