Great location for the ski lift, we were self catering, this suited us coz we only needed a breakfast coz food was so cheap. rooms were quite big also. Small shop on site and Restaurant so all was quite handy.

The trails are very well marked so everything was easy for us to enjoy our 4 hour hike.
Dense vegetation, waterfalls, centuries old tall trees such as birch, Norway spruce and pine. Fraktos forest is really a marvelous place. I will never forget the sight from the top where you can see the mountains forming a sea of "green waves" on the horizon!

Rising above the church is a hill with fortress foundations clearly on show. A Bulgarian flag flew from the top. It was still very sunny and needless to say, the views I got from the top were amazing. Luben pointed out to me two tiny little churches on the mountainsides opposite and told me there are many more in the local area. ...

The old refectory was closed too, but running round its outside wall was a famous and very well-preserved mural of the history of the monastery, painted in 1846, it shows in colourful detail a panorama of the monastery grounds.

I would have loved more time here but I knew we had to move on to Asenovgrad Fortress.

... on, until I had a nasty fall, I hit ice, lost control, and bounced off a 6"6 Romanian guy and then tumbled another 10metres downhill. Hurt and winded I got back in my skiis, though for rest of that day my mojo was definitely gone, confidence just wasn't the same. Next morning however I was back in form. Although very sore still ! We had a different instructor this day as all the groups were to be sorted out that afternoon. The groups were now split up well, people of ...

Back at Dream Catcher we check the weather, if tomorrow's fine we are heading for the mountains, bad we are going further south.
