... aren't meant to be conversations with strangers; some comments, or incidents, or humiliations are best left to a simple laugh and a quick about-turn. There are times to be offended, but most times are not meant to be taken personally, especially in another culture. If I took all to heart here, I would spend the days tucked safely in my bed with a month's worth of ramen. But alas, what kind of adventure would that be?

... Subsequently Sunday morning for the flight to Korea we left an hour earlier than planned and ended up waiting for check-in to open for over 2 hours!

I'm just looking back on some of the fun moments of this trip through China. It has been a wonderful and exciting journey. It has been tough at times, for China can be an unforgiving country. It has also been sweet, innocent and an overwhelming feeling of home. The people I have met along the way on this, my 10th trip have been filled with humour, understanding and hospitality.

Today I got up early and took a ferry out to Gulangyu to beat the crowds and the heat. The island, known also as, Piano Island, has no cars or motor bikes. A very welcome change. The estates, clubs, homes and tennis courts here were the playground of the rich and senior government staff from embassies. It is said each house had a piano, hence the name.
