Nice Beach Resort was clean and very friendly and helpful. Rooms were air conditioned and restaurant food was delicious. We were able to hire scooters from the resort which made it easy to explore the Island.

      Do not stay here!

Although the service is wonderful and the location is great, the rooms are vile and dirty. They are not simply outdated, they are run down and unkempt. Unless they do a major overhaul of their rooms there are far better accommodations for less money around. Absolutely do not recommend this place.

Touring around the Island on Scooters

We hired 4 Scooters for the day @ 200 Baht. Me dinkied on the back of David and Trent on the back of Carly and took off, free and easy, down to the southern tip of Ko Lanta, to the National Park.....we had to pay an entrance fee of 1280 Baht for the 6 of us.

Small grey monkeys were everywhere, we even viewed one in the mating act. David …

Sunday morning dawns too early, for Carly and Trent after their anniversary night. Our taxi van arrived 7:00 am sharp and no Carly and Trent. A Knock on their door revealed they had slept through their alarm. A flurried pack in 5 minutes and we were on our way to the ferry harbour - bound for Lanta on the Ao Nang Princess - a 4 hour trip/cruise …

It would be hugely remiss not to dedicate a few lines to the grandly named Orange City Mansion Hotel which was our chosen initial stop at Krabi. In fact the first feature to mention about the place is that it is not actually in Krabi at all. Krabi sits on a riverbank close to its estuary and the famous beaches and islands are all relatively nearby.

Orange City Mansions is in the edge of Ao Nang and is some 7 or 8 miles away. Ao Nang has two superb beaches the ...

... but I would say to people in advance not to bother booking ahead that there is loads of accommodation not listed on sites like Tripadvisor which are reasonably priced and very nice. However, there are still plenty of beach bars on Long Beach in other hotels, which is where we went to hang out and have some beers to watch the sunset and chill out on the first night.

In spite of the accommodation mishap, Marian and I loved Koh Lanta. Our first day there, we rented ...

... the nearest town. I haggled for a North-Fake bag as all of my day bags keep breaking! This is my third and they're getting bigger. (At the time of writing this, I have noticed that this bag has already got a split in it so I might be onto bag number four by the time I write the next blog) After food on the seafront and a wander round the town, I left Charlotte and Jamie to get a Tuk-Tuk to Lanta Animal Welfare. This is an organization ...
