... it?). By the time I reached the cave the rain (and my sun-protection, probably) had stopped anyway. Still, I began to walk the trail to the cave...
..."You-you! Stop! Must have guide!"...I'm like "What?... ...No I'm ok, I have headtorch." Woman says "No-no, you must have guide, 200 baht (4 quid). No money, no cave." I said "It's a cave. Its nature. Should be free." - "No-no 200 baht."
F*ck it then, I won't go ("Mai-mai-mai"). Been in enough caves for now ...

We were relieved to see her go!

Anyway, next hurdles included, Craig getting sick with a nausea type illness that Tilly, Tim and Anne contracted.

One night, before Anne, Kate and Craig left, we thought we’d go up to the ‘Shroom’ Bar for dinner. Ko Phi Phi Wee's Big Adventure

... in fact it was stronger than a notion, she had a certainty that travelling to Everest, in fact climbing Everest was pretty much a pointless act these days. 'Thousands of people climb it every year and it's become too easy and too touristy' she told us. At being informed of this we all looked at each other in amazement but didn't want to contradict her. We were nice people and happy to behave civilly however ridiculous the tale we were being told was. Her brother had a friend who ...

Koh Lanta

The place I wanted to stay at in Ko Lanta had closed down so I ended up staying at a resort but I managed to get my room discounted from 500B to 350B. Lanta seemed and a package tourist place but the beach was nice, if a bit too much like Spain! At night I went to find a good watering hole in which to meet fellow travellers but most bars were dead apart from one that was full of ...

Ko Phi Phi Islands: Parties and Punks

... easy: you danced, you met people, you chilled, you met people, you took tours, you met people. We had the priviledge of not just meeting any people, but rather undeniably tremendously cool people. Notably: two Aussies with insurmountable energy; one that visited Canada earlier on in his travels and shared our same enthusiasm for snowboarding, and the other, a master at the Melbourne shuffle, who liked to put people up on his shoulders while dancing, and who ...

fuckit... have a bucket.

Milli says: We are still on the beach and becoming masters in the art of Nothing. Its quite exciting to get up, paddle, laze for a while, eat some breakfast/lunch, laze some more, read, swim, eat, drink, laze, eat, drink...you get the idea. The place we are staying is so fantastic, and really has a great group of people that make it really enjoyable. We weren't sure about when Steve was coming - all we knew is that he was coming at some point with his friend. He ended up missing the ...

... bottle and Alan hadn't had anything to drink that day so I think he did well in all fairness. The sky started to get dark so we knew that the usual late afternoon downpour was on its way and thought it best to get home before the skies opened up. On our way back two of the other teams decided to climb the coconut tree. We got advice from A, our resort owner who recommended the ascent and descent technique and then laughed at the craziness of it. He ...

There's a storm coming

... Ko Lanta. Neither of our guide books had much info on the area but one vaguely mentioned a ferry that went to Ko Lanta once a day at 1pm. We got a minibus to the port but the driver kept stopping along the way and we soon resigned ourselves to the fact that we would miss our ferry and would have to stay at the port for the night. We were in luck though as our bus arrived at 12.45pm! Yay! Booo, the ferry was delayed and would not arrive til 3pm we were told. We hung around with a ...

Travelling round the islands of Phi Phi

... did some more snorkelling here and got to see a hell of a lot more colourful, and bl**dy fast, fish. The final stop before sunset was at Shark Point. Apparently you do get to see sharks here, or so they say. Guess what? No sharks. Lorna was pleased about this. Then the guy on the boat said "Look, Sunset".......No, I told him. The sun is just going behind that large rock, it is not setting. His reply...."Look, Sunset"! I think that was the limit of his English. Anyway, we ...

The Ghost house at Relax bay resort

... away all bad influence. Cost of the operation Ghost house: 2 x1200 bath for the basins, 1000 bath for food and drinks and 5000 bath for the exorcist. Total: about 8500 Bath., or the equivalent of a month wage for a uneducated worker. Conclusion: We had a great experience of local beliefs and for sure Didier will not forget that in the future he should consult his staff in matters of Ghost houses. And I am thinking of letting him pay for his ..... Alain.
