Historical Traveler Reviews of Langkawi Holiday Villa

Just correct

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hi,

I stayed there a few weeks ago. Beach, garden, pool, central location were excellent. I only had breakfast which was correct. Rooms were not in very good shape...it was not a problem as I was outside most of the time but something has to be done...I am not sure I would come back in this hotel because of this.

Had a Wonderful Time...

from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I went to the Copthorne Kings Hotel in Singapore for 3nights and then the Holiday Villa Langkawi for 7nights and we both had a fantastic time (22Jan-3Feb 2005).

Thankfully, Singapore and Langkawi were not badly affected by the Tsunami and we did not see any evidence of it's destruction.

The hotel in Langkawi was extremely quiet and not very busy. It was very respectable looking with beautiful gardens. The beach was large with golden sand and georgous views of surrounding islands. There were plenty of watersports and a brilliant beach bar serving drinks and snacks all day and night. My boyfriend swam in the dark blue sea, but I didn't as I prefer see-thru' waters. We ate at the Lagenda restaurant most nights. They had a good selection of English, Malaysian, Indian and Chinese food and very friendly and helpful waiters.

We were too sunburnt to sample the swimming pool, which was a real shame, because it was a lovely looking pool with a pool bar - a nice size as well. However, we did use the tennis courts and the very cheap taxi service at the front of the hotel to do some sight-seeing. The hotel also had internet access, which came in very handy.

The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed, including 24hr room service. The rooms were clean, but don't expect luxury as the decor is very basic. We were advised not to use the balcony either due to fogging for mozzies, but who needs a tiny balcony when you've got a georgous beach! The walls are paper thin and we could hear everyone in the room above us, next to us and in the corridor. However, we decided not to get stressed out about it and it did not spoil our holiday.

The weather was in the 90's with a gentle breeze, so it didn't feel humid. We both got burnt on our 1st whole day in Langkawi - I was reading in the shade on the beach and my boyfriend was sunbathing with factor 15 on, so I advise people to wear a very high sunscreen for the 1st couple of days. We were in so much pain and it does not look attractive! Believe me, it's just not worth the risk.

We did have a really good holiday though. One tip - get your camera ready on the flight home as you get a really clear view of the hotel from the plane!

the first thing is that i would like to thank you to all the staff at the holiday villa becoz they gave me a lot of experience about work. although we got some mental presurre at the work palce, but hey, it was natural of life right. so i felt very satisfied with the work that they gave me. thank you so much.

i also would like to thank to mr. amir ibrahim coz gave me oppurtunity to have a practical training at his place. thank you again.

I spent three days at this hotel in early new year 2005. The sheets were not changed or cleaned; the blankets were smeely; the food at breakfast was excruciatingly bad; the reception staff were the rude and unaccomodating. Dont bother.

I enjoyed a really nice meal at bon ton. top nosh.

Not worth the price

from A TripAdvisor Member
Ok hotel but tooooo expensive comparing to what you get. The reception staff get low points but the staff at the restaurants, the pool and the bars get high points from the two Swedish girls. If we´re coming back, then we´re coming back for the beach!

We'll be back!

My family spent a wonderful relaxing week at Holiday Villa in October,2004.

Our 13 and 17 year old sons found plenty to do,especially in the huge, delightfully warm swimming pool.

The resort is well-maintained,although we were disappointed to find that the "myriad of watersports" advertised in the travel brochure, was in reality, one banana boat.

We had a rental car,but quickly discovered our favourite restaurant,The Sun Cafe was only a walk down the road. This place is terrific. The food, decor and staff cannot be faulted and the ultra- chic restrooms will astound you!!

We plan to visit Langkawi again in September,2005.

Superior Room - RM210/night incl B/Fast for 2

Location :

15-20 mins taxi ride away from the Langkawi airport. u'll find many scenic views along the way. costs u RM16 per trip

20-30 mins to the main Kuah Town.. and will cost u another RM16 for a taxi ride.

Summary - conveniently located in btw the airport / kuah town. taxi services were very well organized and prices are standardized as well.

Food :

B/Fast buffet was good. gotta love the omelettes. selection was above average , not too limited. varies from western to local.

Lunch buffet is a no-no. its a whopping RM35+/pax and the choices were quite predictable.. the usual rice , mee ...some meaty stuffs and all..

Dinner buffet was good. i tried both the international and bbq dinner buffets. great selection and the servings were huge.

Summary - my advice is to go for the ala carte meals if u're on a budget. they serve good ala carte meals with reasonable price and servings are suprisingly huge as well.

Room :

Mine was a superior room. typical hotel room i would say. facilities were quite complete eg. shower / bath / soap / fridge / locker / hairdryer / tvs / beds etc. only complaint was the room looked tired and old. definitely worth a make-over.

Summary - overall ok for the price i paid.

Outdoor :

Swimming pool was huge. and they have a separate jacuzzi pool beside the pool . a poolside bar is available. (go for the cheap beer after a nice swim) baby pool is also available. towers are provided for both pool / beach

The beach was quite a let down , water wasnt clear. you could only see your feet like 2 meters from the beach.. after that its all dark. sand was white n good though some rubbish could be found.

Sea activities are available : jetskiing parasailing etc. though prices were very very expensive..

Nearby restaurants / shops / car/bike rentals are only walking distance away

Summary - 8/10 except for the sea water...

Services :

People were friendly. except one check-out lady which looked somehow annoyed when i asked her if i could leave my baggage for another 3 hours after check-out (hey they have a baggage storeroom available)

Summary - overall u'll find very friendly staffs at this hotel

Overall review : a good hotel and will definitely consider a return.

The worst Hotel in Langkawi

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is the WORST Hotel I've ever been for the past 10 years.

The receptionist are impolite, no responsiblity, no smile and not helpful.

Room are dirty and mosquito can find anywhere in our room.

If you are planning to stay there, change your mind. If don't ... good luck.
