Historical Traveler Reviews of Langham Hotel, Auckland
Excellent

Very nice hotel, clean rooms, comfy beds and lovely complimentary toiletries! A little way outside of the centre but they run a regular free shuttle service.

We stayed here after a very long flight from the UK and found the whole experience to be great. The food was good, especially the breakfast and the staff were calm, efficient and professional. Even though there were renovation works being carried out, we didn't really notice.
Excellent Hotel

My husband and I stopped at the Langham on our NZ leg of an around the world trip. The hotel was excently appointed and the staff very helpful. They couldn't do enough to make your stay more enjoyable. In fact by the time we had returned home to the UK a letter from the manager was waiting for us. He thanked us for completing the customer statisfaction form, pleased to hear we had a good stay and wished us a pleasant onward journey.
We would definetly recommend the Langham to other travellers in this part of NZ.
Excellant Hotel

Both my husband and I have recently stayed at this hotel, now named Langham and all I can say is when can we go back?
We cannot fault anything about this hotel, from the front of house staff to the cleaners.
We arrived 2 days before starting a 2 week tour in NZ, and on entering the hotel after flying from Manchester, we were unable to gain access to our room because it was early and the room was not ready so we were offered facilities to freshen up.
We were impressed with the food both for dinner and breakfast, there was a wide choice, and the rooms were superb and the best bit was when we went to our room at night the bed had been turned down with chocolates left on the pillow, its these little touches that stick in your mind, just like the shuttle bus that took you into town. We were so impressed that we immediately booked into the hotel for the last stage of our holiday in this beautiful country!
Rude front desk clerks...
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed early october 2003. They lost my laundry. their business center is a joke for 9 dollars an hour. Extremely rude, unkempt women at front desk (japanese concierge had exquisite manners the other women could take a tip from her). Unable to follow thru with simple requests such as a wake up call. I felt predjuice throughout as I am asian. I had to stay another night and I requested in person the night before, as well as an email request 24 hours in advance, they claim they never received it, luckily I had a copy of email confirmation. I could go on and on, but for the price there are alot more hotels for the same rate or less that are much more convient, efficient and accomodating.
Good rooms + restaurant, customer service could use a little work

I stayed here for the night before my wedding in a regular room, and the night of my wedding in a suite. The rooms are very pleasant and clean, and we got champagne and chocolates for free because of the wedding.
The staff were generally helpful and very good at delivering my bouquets to the room I was dressing in. The restaurant is excellent. If you want to see Auckland city, it's a 10-15min walk to the main shopping areas, or a couple of minutes on a free bus that stops right outside.
I only have two major complaints. Firstly, when making the booking I told them it was for 4 adults and 3 children. When we arrive they showed us to TWO rooms, each with one king sized bed. What on earth were they thinking? Luckily one adult and one child couldn't make it, so we had one adult with her two kids in one room, and me and another adult on a portable bed in the other. They even tried to charge us for the extra bed until my sister sorted them out :) Be VERY CLEAR about what you want when booking rooms, if for more than two people.
Secondly, on returning to the hotel after the wedding, my new husband and I ordered a bottle of my favourite, expensive champagne (and were charged accordingly). When it was delivered, and after we had opened it and had some, we realised it wasn't the brand we ordered after all, but a New Zealand made one that claimed to be "in the style of", but at the same price! Complete rip off.
Poor Noise Reduction

We stayed at the Sheraton in Auckland in 2002. It was hard to get a good night sleep, since we were literally forced to overhear the conversation that was going on all night in the room next door. Our neighbors weren't particularly loud. They talked in a moderate voice - but we could listen anyway. And of course we could hear them using the bathroom too. The management took our complaints seriously, and tried their best to help - but since this seems to be a problem of the building they couldn't do much about it. Pluses of the Sheraton are the central location and the nice recreation area.
Spurious Photo ID Policy
from A TripAdvisor Member
On arriving at the hotel we were asked to provide photo ID for our reservation. Neither myself or partner had any, having travelled by train from within the same country we don't carry any photo ID, certainly not to book into a hotel! We were told that it was necessary due to their company policy, but when asked to provide a copy of this policy they could not. We decided to stay elsewhere, and stayed in two other hotels without the need for any ID. I have stayed in the Sheraton on 2 previous occassions without this nonsense. I will never use them again. Is this really their policy -and why?
Never again

staff did not appear to have our interest/comfort at heart. Firstly putting us (3 people) into a room with only one bed. Our booking was for three people. They seemed totally disinterested in our situation and we were told that that was the only room left and they would have to put a mattress on the floor, which they did, but that left no room for any movement in the room. The only pleasant staff member was the guy who set up the mattress on the floor. A very unpleasant experience. On checkout my husband ask for a disount, considering the circumstances, but was told "no,because we did end up with 3 beds afterall. We left a written complaint for the Manager with the check-in staff and a few weeks later recieved a note ,signed by a check-in staff member, saying that " the manager has looked into our complaint and found that everything was handled correctly"It then went on to thank us for taking the time to write the complaint. That was our third Xmas there and our last. We stayed for 3 nights.Rob
Good hotel, strange location!
from A TripAdvisor Member
This is quite a nice Sheraton - what you'd expect from them. However, the location is a little strange....walk out of the entrance and turn right and right again brings you onto "K" Street. Wow, walk back into the 50's! Actually, there are really interesting, funny little shops and departments stores, (all stock probably from the 50's too!) At night it comes alive a bit more, lots of bars and clubs, some heaving, some empty. As for being central, well it isn't - the main shops are a taxi ride away. But I enjoyed the experience and it's a comfortable place to stay.
