Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden

After breakfast this morning, we headed out to the Chi Lin Nunnery. We took the MTR and then it was a very short walk. This is a beautiful and peaceful place built in 1934. Traditional Tang Dynasty architectural techniques involving wooden dowels and brackets were used in the construction. The gardens in the Nunnery are full of bonsai and water …

Hong Kong Island

Woke up early and went down to Club Lounge for breakfast ... Dim sum among other things! Headed out around 9 AM. There is a metro station in the basement of the shopping mall next door and a skyway from the hotel to the shopping mall. Very convenient! Took the MTR and then the Star Ferry to Central (Hong Kong Island). The MTR is just like BART. We …

We are in Hong Kong. Breezed through Immigrations and Customs. Took taxi from airport. Staying at Latham Place in Mongkok. Have a suite on the 39th floor with club level access (free wine and food). We are spoiled forever. They were running a special when we made the reservation ... Stay two nights, get the 3rd night free.
It is 10:00 PM Monday night ... We are headed to bed.

Day 92

This bed seems to envelop me. Nice to have a bit of luxury after the camper though so I don't feel guilty. Brekky today from Deli France. We had a walk around the block but the heat was too much. Instead, I took you to the gym, did another workout and had a lazy few hours on the gorgeous roof-top pool. Think we both got quite good tans up there! …

I could've slept for a week. Instead, you, a cup of tea and a free newspaper brought me to life just after 10am. We found breakfast at McDonald’s but then ventured out in to Kowloon. Hot and humid but no mistaking where we were. The sweat dropped off me and I stupidly wore trousers. You bought a brolly to cover you from the sun. Good to see. …

    Great Location

The hotel is located right in a large shopping centre in the hub of MongKok which means you are only a few minutes walk from some of the most famous markets in Hong Kong such as Ladies Market and the Jade Market. Its close proximity to the MTR also makes it handy for reaching other parts of Hong Kong - the MTR itself can be accessed from beneath the hotel but is probably quicker to get to via the side entrance. The hotel itself is bright and airy, and the beds very comfortable and the rooms offers some great panoramic views of Mongkok. All the staff were very polite and extemely helpful. We did not eat in the hotel during our stay, as we found we could eat well but for a lot cheaper in and around Mongkok and also in the shopping centre's food hall - which is connected via a walkway which you can access near to the restaurant. Mongkok may not be as flashy as other parts Hong Kong, but is an extremly vibrant area and it's a great place to experience the authentic hustle and bustle of Hong Kong life. Walking around the area at night I felt completely at ease and safe as a lone women, and have no hesitations in staying at the hotel the next time I'm in Hong Kong.

Great hotel but a bit far from the main shopping areas

I usually prefer staying either in Causeway Bay (Park Lane, Excelsior) or in one of the Marco Polo hotels (near Ocean Terminal) but travel agent recommended this new hotel as the price was quite reasonable considering its five-star appeal (US$125/room). I went to the hotel website and the hotel looked super hi-tech and so new and fancy (with glass windows separating the bathroom from the room) and with the MTR just underneath the Langham Mall (which is adjacent to the hotel), I thought it would be worth it. I was not disappointed with the hotel per se. Hotel even smelled new and had a very fresh smell every time I entered the lobby. The only disadvantage is that the rooms were quite small (although I had been warned based on previous reviews), I didn't expect it to be this small. We had two small beds which would be ideal for just two people (rooms in Marco Polo and Park Lane offer two large twin beds and can fit four people). The room though was great. There was a dvd player (although it only showed black and white images -- complained about this but the engineer did not understand English and had a hard time explaining the problem) and hotel offers free dvds that you can borrow. Bottomline: great hotel if you plan to just lounge and relax in your hotel. However, if you plan to do a lot of shopping, location is a bit of a problem (I would prefer to stay in a hotel within the shopping areas rather than travel every day to it). Telephone is too high-tech and not that user friend. I tried using the free SMS texting and when it did not work, I couldn't remove the message I had typed. Warning also: the swimming pool is still being constructed (website is a bit deceiving as it already showed a picture of the pool). Overall: I had a wonderful stay but if I did not get a great price, I would have chosen a more strategically located hotel.

5 * is one too many

We stayed six nights. Arrived at 9am and checked in right away even if we had not asked for an early check in.

The hotel is very new, which is a good thing in terms of the room fittings, but a bad thing in terms of other services.

The swimming pool is currently closed (closed early April) and will not open until June they said. However, as the closure is due to "engineering" issues and "licensing" issues, expect a LONG time before it reopens. Sounds like they did not get the right permits....

The rooms are great. The bed is the best hotel bed I have slept in.

    Staff is attentive.

The Mongkok area is great! Don't be frightened off by it not being Admiralty, Central or TST. It's only 10 mins away from the southern tip of Kowloon.

5-star Hotel but NO CLASS Service.

I must say that if you just rate the facilities and rooms, this hotel is indeed 5-star. But if you should look at the overall service, definitely it has not reached the 5-star standard yet. Although the staff are courteous (most with a smile), but the personal touch is absent, and most staff are not initiative and helpful.

    Great hotel

Spent 7 nights there during Chinese New Year. Great place. Friendly service. Free internet access at the business center. Plasma TV was fantastic.

Modern Comforts in Old Culture Surroundings

We stayed at Langham Place in Mongkok for six nights in early February and were thoroughly satisfied from beginning to end. We were courteously checked in way before check in time (at 9AM) and every single one of our requests was attended to promptly.

On the service it's Great... underneath BAD

We were booked into the Langham Place Hotel for 5 nights, went on a 4 day tour and stayed another 7 nights. It was not a nice experience. We couldn't believe this was a 5 STAR hotel. The service was not impressive at all. If we hadn't paid for all the hotel up front, we would have moved. The SMART centre - their in house contact, was not smart at all. We have to call them everyday. Every answer was, I don't know and I have to call you back.

    Excellent hotel.

Beautiful hotel. Top of the line fittings and fixtures although they have some installation issues (a mixture of absolutely perfect and wow, they didn't finish that piece of drywall and who put in that silicone sealent?) Beds VERY comfortable!

    Best of the best

We stayed only two nights at this hi-tech and gorgeous hotel. One of the best of the best hotel so far...We're looking forwarded to come back to this one anytime.

    Fantastic experience

Spent 3 nights in Hong Kong at this hotel and loved it! The room is first rate--huge plasma TV, incredibly soft bed, free DVD movies, a bathroom to die for. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The price was quite reasonable, considering what we were getting. Just 1 1/2 blocks from the Metro, whcih will take you anywhere you want to go. Will definitely stay here again.
