Bruges? Luxembourg? Hmmm... How about both! We decree on first taking the train to Bruges for the day and then taking the train to Luxembourg at night. We didn't get on the road quite as fast as we planned and he train was late but eventually we got on our way. The man came around to check our tickets and I almost got a fine for putting my feet on the seat. A simple please put you feet down would work! We arrived into Bruges and ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Ter Reien Brugge

    Excellent choice!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The location was excellent (easy access to the square/market but far enough away to get a good night's sleep), the view was spectacular (when we opened our long, low window, we could literally step into the canal), and the price was right. Also, the breakfasts were the best we had during our trip to the Netherlands and Belgium (great breads, chocolate croissants, currant rolls, eggs, cheeses, meats, etc.). The staff was very helpful and accommodating; they served us breakfast 30 minutes earlier than usual on the morning we had to catch an early train. Although the room was small (nothing new in Europe) and the tiny bathroom, particularly the shower, was a challenge for my 6-foot-plus husband, we would definitely stay here again.

    Highly recommended

Just found your site, and wondered what others thought of this great hotel.

My wife and I have stayed here three times in the last five years, and we keep coming back.

The first time, we stayed in a first floor room which was clean and pleasant enough and over-looking the courtyard. But while we were there we fell in love with the honeymoon suite, and the very charming family owners transferred us to it for the last night of our stay.

The honeymoon suite is completely detached from the rest of the Hotel with its own spacious en-suite shower room. It has a magnificent four-poster bed and double doors over looking the canal, that are so low that you could hand feed the swans (if you're brave enough).

Overall a lovely friendly Hotel in a lovely friendly City.

    A little gem!

I just arrived home and wanted to say that my stay at the Hotel ter Reien was delightful. The hotel is a small boutique hotel. The woman at the front desk greeted me warmly, she gave me a beautiful room overlooking the canal, the breafast was very good, the pasteries in particular were great. The room was a bit small but the bed large and the room clean.

The bathroom was moduler and small but also clean.

It was a short walk to the center plaza. My only concern like many european hotels are that the walls are thin and I could clearly hear conversations in the room next door. For the price and what you get I would stay here again.

    Canal view, small bathroom

Our three day stay in Sept. 2005 was pleasant except for the tiny pod of a bathroom. The room was right on the canal with the swans, boats and good dining nearby. The bed was a bit tough, but it was a treat to lay on the bed and look out onto the water. We enjoyed the ample and varied breakfast buffet, the location and pleasant staff. Dumon Chocolatier is our favorite in the city (and we sampled a lot!).

    We reserved the Honeymoon Suite

My husband and I just returned from an anniversary weekend in Brugge. We reserved the honeymoon Suite with it's double French doors opening right out onto the canal. I thought the 110 Euro for the "best" room in the house was a pretty good value. The room was quaint and lovely although much smaller than dipicted in the photo on the web site. It had a four poster bed and a good sized shower bath ensuite also with French windows. If you had a mind to, you could sit on the "throne" and watch the tour boats go buy. The swans swam up to the doors begging for crumbs several times a day. The hotel was quiet enough in the evening, even being on a busy canal. The best restaurant we found was "Cafedral Brasserie", Zilverstraat 38 with fabulous (although pretty pricey) food. But also a great interior. The waiters and service were quite good. Breakfast at the Hotel was varied, plentiful, and good. The best thing to do in Bruges is to just walk the city and drink in all that preserved medieval architecture. The hotel has no parking but there is a garage about a 5 minute walk away. The street that the hotel is on has several restaurants. Of course you are centrally located and very close to everything on foot. It is easy to walk the city in a day. I would stay at the Hotel Ter Reien again if I ever return to Brugge.

    A truly wonderful place

ter reien might be one of my favorite places i've ever stayed at, but i'll start with the very minor negatives to get them out of the way. i found the staff nice and polite but a little distant and off-putting (though my wife liked them more). partly that's just how alot of the people in brugge were. the bathrooms are very small, kind of built into the rooms like little airplane bathrooms, but they worked well and were fine and i will say this: we have started travelling annually to europe and stay in places for under 100 euros that are in good locations, are smaller, and somewhat personal, and small bathrooms and small rooms are kind of par for the course. it's okay with me as long as they're clean and nice and ter reien is, quite clean and very comfortable and even beautiful.

    Nice Stay at Ter Reien

We had a nice stay at Hotel Ter Reien in August 2004. Our double room was very small and had the smallest shower I've ever used, but the room had a nice view of the canal. Also, even though the hotel has an elevator, we needed to walk down several stairs to get to it, then down several more stairs after we got to our floor. Also, the bathroom required a step up. So it's not ideal if you have mobility issues.

The breakfast was good and plentiful. The location of the hotel is excellent -- less than a 5 minute walk to the Burg and Market Square. Overall, Hotel Ter Reien was a good choice.

Really nice place to stay in Brugge

We had a thoroughly nice stay at the Hotel ter Reien when we stayed there in July 2004. Our room overlooked the canal so the view was very nice. Our rooms were clean, lots of hot water and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good - different than in the states but we thoroughly enjoyed the variety and quality of the food. This hotel is located in an excellent part of the city and it was easy to walk back to the market. Shopping in the side streets near this hotel was alot better than being in the overcrowded market area. The restaurant across the street (De Torre Restaurant) was very good too. I would definitely stay here again!

Good 3 star hotel, clean, helpful staff and nice breakfast for sale

During our first trip to Bruges we were very fortunate to come across this hotel which for us is perfect for many reasons - it is a small hotel (I hate very large impersonal ones), it is extremely clean, the breakfast room is very pleasant in the morning and the actual breakfast is excellent, the cost of a canal view room is so competitive that we booked this hotel again. When you are able to open your window in the morning and see all the activity with the boats up and down, it makes you understand why Brugge is so much like Venice - splendid architecture, good restaurants and a lovely ambience to the place.

    Great location, friendly staff...

Great location. Lovely, clean hotel. Very large quad room overlooking the canal. Very good breakfast with friendly staff. Would stay here again.
