Day 49. Vermont The first stop today was Fort Adams - not that was saw a great deal of the fort. It was bucketing down, windy and so cold, the walk to the visitors centre was enough to send us back to the warmth of our car. ... deep blue fountain holes with graduating stairs on either side. Apparently this design was heralded as an architectural masterpiece in its time!

There wasn't a huge amount to the gardens so we wandered down to the field to meet some of the local hairy residents.

... good service, very nice man, looks like a nice marina in case anyone is in the area! Troy Federal Lock was the only one without hanging ropes, we had to loop our lines around a pipe instead. After the last lock we hit tidal waters.... time to pay attention and plan our runs accordingly from now on. It was interesting to pass through the bigger cities of Troy and Albany, and for me it was fun to see Albany from a completely different point of view! After Albany's shipping yards ...

... music festival. This festival attracts a wide range of contemporary musicians and singers to the area.

The Berkshires are located at the very Western end of Massachusetts. This area was amazingly green, hilly and heavily wooded.You could see that "Fall" was on its way, with the occasional glimpse of colour change in a few trees. It was clear that the area would be beautiful in full Autumn colour.
